Welcome to MADE in Lake County! MADE introduces you to the people and stories behind local Lake County businesses. Have you met this month’s featured business owner, Alison Dalton, owner of Dalton’s Cakes in Grayslake? One of Alison’s favorite parts of her job is creating amazing cakes for her clients. Today she shares some of her favorite cakes with us.
Skittles Birthday cake, I love how the bag of candy is suspended and pouring!
Jake and the Neverland Pirates, two cakes in one!
Check out all the details on this personalized Doc McStuffin’s First Birthday cake! I love the band-aids and the sparkly 1 on the top.
This MAC Cosmetics cake was for an adult but would be super cute for a Sweet 16 or for a send-off to cosmetology school.
Great birthday cakes aren’t just for kids! The fisherman in your life would love to catch this cake!
If the shoe fits… eat it!
Why choose only one favorite superhero when Allison can expertly work all your favorites in to cake!
I am getting a rush just from looking at this Monster Energy Birthday cake. What a way to say welcome to teenage-land! The can is totally elevated too which is so cool!
Number 9 isn’t a birthday cake but is still spectacular and we had to share it. This graduation cake reminds students they can go anywhere because “Knowledge opens doors”.
Number 10 is a very special cake that Allison did for Icing Smiles for our former writer Kristy. Kristy’s son was celebrating his 100th-day post bone marrow transplant (you can read all about Dalton’s Cakes and Icing Smiles in Loralie’s story). Aside from the amazing design that Allison and the kids came up with together this cake is also gluten-free and free of FD&C coloring. Allison worked with Kristy and sourced her ingredients from out of the country to meet their family’s dietary restrictions.
“If there is any way we can adjust our menu or our offering to accommodate a request we will,” says Alison. In addition to offering conventional baked goods, breakfast, and lunch items, they offer gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free and even vegan versions of their products upon request. The shop is also peanut-free.
