12 Shops of Christmas {2014}: Local Artisans- Bashful Owl

Welcome to Little Lake County’s 12 Shops of Christmas! Each day for 12 days we will feature a wonderful local retailer as a way of encouraging our community to shop local this holiday season.

When you buy local you are making an investment in yourself and your community. Learn more about these unique shops doing business close to home. Local doesn’t have to mean a brick and mortar store though! Today we will be featuring 5 local artisans that live and create here in Lake County, consider them in our holiday gifting.

Sometimes the best gifts come in small packages. Think about it! Babies. Rings. Wool socks. Chapstick.

No? Not everyone gets as geeked about wool socks and chapstick as I do? Well, let me tell you — life changing during a midwest winter. Maybe you won’t be giving any of those gifts away this holiday season {babies, kinda hard to be a part of that gifting!}, but don’t underestimate the beauty of a small package gift — especially if it contains a gorgeous handmade jewelry creation from Bashful Owl.

Bashful Owl jewelry  is unlike that which you’d find in big-box stores and even many small shops. Each piece of jewelry is handcrafted by owner Shannon in her Lake County home while her two-year-old daughter slumbers during nap and bedtimes. The jewelry is made with mostly raw crystals to give each customer a one-of-a-kind piece, and awesomely all are priced below $50, making it rather affordable to gift Bashful Owl creations to several people on your holiday gift list.

While you can find Bashful Owl jewelry in two stores — Wolbait & B-Girls in Chicago and Atown in Austin, TX — it’s probably easiest to take a peak at Bashful Owl’s Etsy Shop.

Bashful Owl’s Facebook page is also a must-visit; Shannon hosts regularly giveaways and offers discounts and sneak peeks. Speaking of discounts, she’s graciously offering one to you — enjoy 10 percent off your entire purchase until December 8, 2014 with the coupon code “lakecounty2014.” Happy shopping!
