When you first set eyes on Bowen Park in Waukegan, your first reaction will be, “DUDE!”

And who could blame you?  With 40-foot tube slides, a giant web climber, splash pad, separate tot lot and a gorgeous natural setting, there’s simply no better location to launch the start of the Little Lake County Playground Tour 2015.

Our youngest groupies will enjoy the quieter toddler play area which is set apart from the rest of the playground at the highest level of this multi-tiered park.Bowen Park Toddler PlayThe toddler play area is well shaded with a small sand pit and squishy rubberized turf that’s great for wobbly walkers.

As if this totally rockin’ playground weren’t enough reason to come out and play, we’ve got a full lineup of special guests who are coming to jam with us.  Three Brothers Theatre in Waukegan will perform scenes from their latest children’s production, Alice in Wonderland!

Our tour sponsor, Great Lakes Credit Union is bringing the adorable Kirby Kangaroo to each stop on our tour to visit with friends, sign autographs, give hugs and kiss babies.  Justin Bieber’s got nuthin’ on Kirby!

The Waukegan Park District will also be offering fun activities and we’ll be handing out samples (while supplies last) of Surf Sweets Organic Jelly Beans which are allergy-friendly and made with organic sweeteners.

Amenities: Outlook tower with 4o ft. tube slides, Spider Climber, overlook platform, spinner, dish swings, splash pad, toddler play area, fitness/exercise trail, Log Climber, small amphitheatre, nearby picnic area
Shade: Full to moderate, many mature trees
Restrooms: Yes! Real toilets can be found right by the parking lot as well as the nearby Craft Cottage
Ground cover: Mixed – mostly wood chips with rubberized turf on hillside and toddler area
Good for: All ages.  The toddler play area gives the little ones a quiet space to explore while older children will go wild over the tall play structures.  Keep in mind the  multiple levels and hillside construction of the playground do interfere with sightlines when trying keep track of multiple children at one time.
