Products to Help Baby Sleep

parenting books

Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child is a great book to learn all about sleep.  Many parents consider this book their go-to when it comes to learning what to do when their baby isn’t sleeping well. (editor’s note: This is my go-to book, I give it to all new moms) Dr. Weissbluth does a great job at explaining the science behind sleep and very generally how to implement a plan (there are other books that I recommend on my website if you want a gentler approach).

White Noise Machine
Babies love white noise.  It’s calming, relaxing and reminds them of the days while they were hanging in your womb.  As a bonus, white noise muffles the surrounding sounds that could wake a baby up. Getting a white noise monitor sets the stage for a great sleep environment.

Blackout EZ Window Cover
Blackout Shades- Helping a baby sleep well includes making sure they are sleeping in an environment conducive to sleep.  Making sure that the room is dark (even during the day) sets the stage for restorative and restful sleep.  There are many DIY options such as tin foil, construction paper, or paper shades but they are only temporary solutions.  The Blackout EZ shade is a great solution that not only looks great but it won’t ruin your windows.

Summer Baby Pixel Zoom HD Video Baby Monitor
In previous generations, things were so much simpler.  Back then, the audio monitor wasn’t even invented.  Fast forward to today and a video monitor (for better or worse) now allows us to not only hear but see our baby sleep.  When focusing on healthy sleep habits, it’s actually extremely helpful to know when your baby is sleeping and give many parents peace of mind that their baby is OK.  Also as your baby is now a toddler, it’s helpful to be able to talk through the monitor at times.  I will note that it is possible to get a case of monitor addiction and in that case…step away from the monitor.

Teach Me Time! Talking Alarm Clock and Nightlight
Early rising does not have to be the norm for your family! A tot clock can be a helpful tool to help teach your toddler the rules of sleep. When used consistently, your toddler will eliminate those early wake-ups and teach your toddler to stay in their room until the clock turns green.
