From Highland Park to Hainesville, the Lake County suburbs are vast and everyone is looking for that parent who’s just like them. This month we’re taking a look “Behind the Trike” and meeting the parents who bring Lake County to you every day. Today we’re meeting MiaLynn the “Military Mama”.

Best advice (and from whom) you have received as a mom?
…my husband! His motto is to “wing it!” Keep an open mind and not try to plan for everything; just let everything happen as it happens.
Your most challenging moment as a mom?
I am a first-time mom to a 13-month-old, and I am currently 21 weeks pregnant. Would it be crazy to say nothing yet?! But if I had to pick something, receiving advice from other moms who become an expert of your child rather than their own!
What room in your house would you be most embarrassed by if someone dropped by unannounced?
I would definitely say my kitchen! EVERYTHING is white (downfall to living in military housing and not getting to choose our color schemes)! I seem to neglect this area throughout the day. It’s always sanitized but not always organized!
Best class or activity you have done with your kids?
When our Lil sailor was eight months, we took him to see “The Jungle Book” downtown. He loved the music, lights, and sounds! Others would be the Round Lake Park District’s Children’s Museum and swim lessons on the military base. Now that he is walking (and running) on his own, I look forward to exploring children’s activities!
Best place in your town to eat with kids?
We are just entering the stage where this is going to be important. Stay tuned….
Hidden gem or local event that you don’t want to miss in your town?
We are fairly new to the Lake County area. We moved to the Midwest from the East Coast in mid-2012 so I am still learning the area and everything it has to offer. So I will happily entertain suggestions!!!
MiaLynn is a teacher who is originally from Pennsylvania and moved to Virginia where she met her active duty military husband. Shortly after moving to Lake County Mialynn had her first son. She’s currently a part-time preschool teacher, an active in the military community as a volunteer command Ombudsman and she’s due this summer with her second child! Talk about a busy mama!
