Arbor Day is a holiday, usually in the spring, to encourage individuals and groups to plant trees. Arbor Day began in 1873 in Nebraska, and by the 1920’s it was a national observance celebrated on the last Friday in April. In Lake County a few celebrations are happening this weekend, read on to learn more.

Arbor Day Celebrations in Lake County
Lake Zurich Arbor Day
April 27, 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Paulus Park, Lake Zurich
Individuals, families and community groups are invited to meet at Paulus Park for breakfast and a tree planting ceremony. After that volunteers will depart for assigned parks and work together to clean them up.
Highland Park Arbor Day Celebration
April 27, 8:30 – 11:00 a.m.
Jens Jensen Park, Highland Park
The Highland Park Arbor day event includes a Touch-a-Truck, raptor talk with live birds from Northern Illinois Raptor Rehab, plant-a-seed stations, crafts, tree and shrub giveaway and more.
Can’t make the celebration? Plant a Native Tree or shrub! You can find Native Plant Sales in Lake County happening all spring. Some Farmers Markets will also have plant for sale at the early spring markets.
