Ballet dance traditionally tells a story through choreography and music. Now toddlers and preschoolers can experience the storytelling side of ballet in a format they understand at Ballet & Books Storytime.

This new free offering at Dancenter North highlights ballet through stories and movement in a fun and relaxed environment. Every Wednesday afternoon one of Dancenter North Early Childhood teachers will lead children ages 2-5 and their caregivers through an interactive and movement filled storytime perfect for tiny dance lovers and story lovers who can’t sit still.
Each class will begin with a favorite book read aloud to the children. Examples of recent books are:
- Ballerina Swan by Allegra Kent and illustrated by Emily Arnold McCully
- Rosie’s Ballet Slippers by Susan Hampshire and illustrated by Maria Meloni
After the story children will be lead through dance and creative play.

If that doesn’t sound good enough, this is a drop-in class. No fee and no registration required. It’s perfect for the little one who wants to visit a studio, or perhaps has an older sibling that dances but isn’t sure they want to try it. They can learn about dance and freely move without the pressure of a structured class schedule.
Ballet & Books Storytime takes place every Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. when Dancenter North is in session. Fall session is happening now through December 14, there are no classes November 26 – December 1.
