Vernon Hills, IL

Ballet Theatre of Illinois is a company in residence at Dance Academy of Libertyville, a Little Lake County paid advertising partner.

Spring is coming early, no matter what the groundhog says. Ballet Theatre of Illinois is staging it’s next performance February 29 – March 1 and it will help you forget the snow and think of the flowers and spring that are coming soon.

Ballet Theatre of Illinois is a non-profit dance company for pre-professional artists. BTI was established to enhance the training of aspiring dancers. Their purpose is to provide company members with opportunities to perform and cultivate personal artistic growth.

Their spring show will feature two ballets, Peter & the Wolf and Le Jardin Anime. This wonderful production is only fifty (50) minutes in length. The perfect amount of time for little ones who have short attention spans.

The dance double feature starts with Le Jardin Animé. The ballet is one of three acts based on the poem The Corsaire by Lord Byron. Le Jardin is the story of a young girl joining the women she is captive with to dance a fantastical Grand Ballet in which they celebrate beauty, grace, and harmony in a garden filled with flowers and magic fortunes.

Many adults may be familiar with the tale of Peter and the Wolf, but it will be a delightful new fairy tale to many young children. It will delight newcomers to the lyrical sounds of an orchestra. In the story, each character is represented by an instrument: the bird (flute), the duck (oboe), the cat (clarinet), grandfather (bassoon), the wolf (french horns) and Peter (strings).

After each performance young audience members are invited to meet the cast and have the dancers’ sign autographs. I look forward to the photo ops and seeing my own tiny ballerina ooh and ahh over their costumes.
