It’s hot, really hot! There doesn’t seem to be any relief in sight from this oppressive heat which is making summer feel a little like winter being all cooped up inside! If your kids are going a little stir crazy but your budget is saying WHOA! it’s supposed to be free entertainment season (parks! yards! bikes!)!
Here are five free {or cheap!} indoor {cool!} things you can do today with your kids:
  1. Visit your local library. Or mix it up and visit a different library! Most have play stations for puzzles, trains, and audio books, several have drop-in crafts. Their are {FREE} Drop-in Storytimes today in Grayslake, Cook Memorial – Aspen Drive (Vernon Hills), Lake Forest, Vernon Area (Lincolnshire), Fox Lake, and Waukegan. Even babies can enjoy playing in bins of board books at the library.
  2. Visit a book store! It may be harder to stay on budget {FREE} Barnes and Noble has storytimes in the children’s department as well as a train play.
  3. Take in a {cheap} movie. Nothing’s cooler then sitting in an nice air conditioned theater for an hour or two. Check out our Summer Movie Round-up to find a kids showing near you, most are only a dollar!
  4. Head to the mall play area. Westfield Hawthorn has an indoor play area that’s cool and free.
  5. Cool off on the ice. Any day that the forecasted temperature in Gurnee reaches over 85 (it’s supposed to be over 100 today!) Public Skating and skate rental is FREE at Rink Side Family Entertainment.
