Do you think you can match the 89 free-throw percentage that NBA superstar Stephen Curry posts?
The Libertyville Sports Complex is hosting their Fifth Annual Free Throw Challenge to find out who is the area’s best sharp shooter until March 30.
The divisions are divvied up by women, men, girls and boys. The complex features youth grades: third and fourth grade, fifth and sixth grade, seventh and eighth grade and the high school levels for boys and girls.
Before the challenge begins participants all must pay and sign a waiver. It is $5 for 10 shots and you could try again for another $5. However, if you try a second time, the complex only accepts your best score. The top five competitors in each division will advance to the Championship finals.
There is also an adult level from 18-29 and 30-54, as well as the senior level that begins at 55 and up.
The 2014 champions include Scott Jensen of Libertyville in Adult men 55 and up, Mel Blue of Mundelein at 30 plus and Eddie Clover of Lake Bluff. The younger winners were Libertyville’s Mark Jenson at the high school level, Michael Rogalski in junior high from Hawthorn Woods, Algonquin native Gavin Platson at the fifth and sixth grade level and our youngest winner in third/fourth grade was Dominic Jankowski of Lake Villa.
The finals are on Saturday, April 4 in front of the crowd at center court, so you have to have a gutsy performance. You will get your name announced in the introductions before taking part.
TBA is the prizes that will be won by the victors and each group’s winner will receive a medal. Sponsors include Mickey Finn’s and Fine’s since 1978. After you compete, you can treat yourself to a tasty dog and fries.
Come on out to the Liberty Sports Complex and let’s see your skills from the free stripe!!!
