The big kids are back to school so it’s now time to focus on those little ones that are still at home. Summer may be over but there is still plenty of good weather and fun to be had. Check out our picks for September Must-do Events.

  1. Volunteer as a Family
    Join Little Lake County and Great Lakes Credit Union as we give back to our community by volunteering at the Northern Illinois Food Bank. There are only a few spots left!

  2. Pick Apples
    Apple Season is here! A great family outing that gets you outside and feeds you! Hit up a Little Lake County Favorite, All Seasons Orchard – for it’s opening weekend September 2.  Looking for ideas on what to do with all those apples? Sign-up for our new newsletter Eat This!

  3. See a Play
    As the temperatures drop it’s a great time to head inside to a cozy theater and see a great performance. Watch for our full guide to fall productions coming later this month. For a heartwarming performance the whole family will love check out the Lambs Farm Participant Theater production of Aladdin.
  4. Touch-A-Truck and Harvest Fest
    The Deerfield Park District joins the Deerfield Farms Market on September 23 for a Harvest Festival and Touch-a-Truck event that will thrill the whole family. Can’t make that weekend? We have a whole list of Fall touch-a-truck events.
  5. Back-to-Pool
    Dine in the water’s fine! Join Little Lake County and Goldfish Swim School for a swim party at their facility. We’ll have snacks, games, crafts, and of course swimming! Tickets are required and limited to grab yours today!

  6. Law Enforcement Expo
    The 13th Annual Law Enforcement Expo is September 9 at Hawthorn Mall. This is a favorite of all kids when the mall is filled with vehicles and exhibits from Law Enforcement and related agencies.
  7. Block Party
    Pack up the family, a blanket, and chairs and head to Gorton Community Center for the annual Block Party. The party features food, entertainment, a visit from the Wildlife Discovery Center, Star Wars costume contest and a showing of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
  8. Celebrate 45 Years
    Go back to the 70’s to celebrate the Round Lake Area Public Library’s 45th Anniversary. The day will feature snacks, tours, photo ops, special guests and more. They will also be raffling off a Atari Flashback.
  9. Northern Illinois Air Show – Wings over Waukegan
    On September 9 the sky above Waukegan will come alive with aerial stunts and acrobats at the annual Northern Illinois Air Show, children 12 and under are FREE!

  10. Harvest Festival
    Join the Lake County Farm Heritage Association for  a fall festival celebrating farming! Their will be Farm Heritage Days, Oktoberfest, live music, rides and more. September 22 – 24 at the Fairgrounds.
