If ever a time called for indulgence and out of this world sugar consumption, a tenth birthday, during a pandemic, is it. We wanted to give our newly minted 10-year-old a fun outing with her pod to enjoy a sweet treat. Big Cups from The Latte Cafe and Bakery fit the bill, and then some. If you are looking for out-of-this-world milkshakes and hot chocolate, read on and plan your visit.

Big Cups at The Latte Cafe & Bakery
We told you about the high-quality bakery items that The Latte Café makes as part of our MADE in Lake County series. These drinks are no exception. Each one starts with a 24 oz. cup of either frappe or hot chocolate. From there it’s a magical creation that would make Willy Wonka proud. We tried three of the six varieties offered.
Chocoholic Big Cup

The Chocoholic Big Cup starts with a chocolate chocolate chip frappe (blended) base served in a chocolate sprinkle cup. It is topped with whipped cream, a chocolate cake pop, a brownie piece, and a chocolate-covered pretzel. My daughter said it was the best cake-pop she’s had.
Unicorn Hot Chocolate Big Cup

The Unicorn Hot Chocolate Big Cup starts with 24 oz. of white hot chocolate topped with whipped cream. I’m pretty sure they employ actual unicorns for all the magic this is topped with. It comes with a rainbow sprinkle chocolate-covered pretzel and a rainbow sprinkle homemade marshmallow.
Cookie Dough Big Cup

The Cookie Dough Big Cup starts with 24 oz vanilla frappe blended with chocolate chip cookie dough and is served in a cookie crumble dipped cup. That alone would make it fabulous but we are going for over the top here. They add to that a mini cookie dough sandwich (two mini chocolate chip cookies stuffed with edible cookie dough) a cookie dough truffle, and a chocolate-covered pretzel. I’m pretty sure it also contains your sugar intake for a month!
They also offer a Unicorn Big Cup which is a cotton candy flavored frappe with the same toppings as the hot chocolate. A So Extra Hot Chocolate that is both white and dark chocolate and a Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate that would have been my pick from the menu.
These are definitely a once in a while special treat. They are pricier than the normal drinks at the café, and rightfully so they are chocked with so. much. stuff. It took the kids several hours to finish their drinks off. I have a feeling this may become a birthday tradition as they are already talking about what they want to try next time. I think they need to come down off their sugar high before we plan another outing!
