Some days I wonder if my boys will ever get tired of LEGO®. After all, they’ve been building with them since they were toddlers. Now that they’re entering the teen years I wonder when the fascination with LEGO® will end. But after a day at Brickworld, I hope it never does.

We’ve been to Brickworld several times as my children have grown and it never disappoints. Whether it’s a display of a life-size Harry Potter or the landscape of the entire Emerald City, you will be not be disappointed either. It’s amazing what can come from some tiny colored bricks, a little imagination and a whole lot of teamwork. Brickworld features artists and engineers from all over the world who team up to provide 100,000 square feet of displays, interactive activities, and items for sale. It’s North America’s premier brick exhibit and it happens for two days only during Father’s Day weekend, making it the perfect way to spend time with that special AFOL (Adult Fan of LEGO®) in your life.

But Brickworld isn’t just for AFOLs; the whole family will enjoy seeing the unique displays and talking to the designers. At our first Brickworld, we met LEGO® Certified Professional and Chicago native Adam Reed Tucker whose work was featured at the Museum of Science and Industry’s exhibit Brick by Brick. He told us about his inspiration and how he develops new ideas for LEGO. My then five-year-old was so fascinated by Adam’s story that he’s claimed to want to be a LEGO® designer ever since. In fact, almost every person exhibiting at the event has an interesting story to tell, so make time to ask questions and listen.
The exhibit hall is a stroller friendly space with plenty of parking outside the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center. The elaborate displays stay safely behind roped areas where curious kids can look without touching. And there are lots of new products to explore. After all, if you can dream it you can do it. And chances are, somebody has done it with LEGO®!
