How do you choose what wine you will serve at your holiday celebrations this year? Do you pick the one with the prettiest/coolest/most appealing label? That’s okay; I used to do that too. If you are looking for an affordable wine that will wow your guests, skip the cutesy stick figures and animals and pick up a bottle (or two or three) of the only American-made and grown wine under $10: CK Mondavi Wines.

CK Mondavi Wines for the Holidays
CK Mondavi wines is a family-owned and operated winery in Napa Valley. Run by the legendary Peter Mondavi Senior CK Mondavi wines has been family-run since it opened in 1940. I was introduced to CK Mondavi through their service with the Intrepid Fallen Heros Fund. I love a company that gives back, and since the midwest isn’t known for its vast vineyards, shopping American Made is a great alternative.
This season we are sampling the Scarlet Five and Blond Five wines. Named not just because they are a blend of several varieties but also because Marc Mondavi has five women in his family (4 daughters and his wife).

The Scarlet Five is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. It’s an excellent blend for someone who wants to try a red but doesn’t want a merlot’s robust flavor. I happen to be a lover of red wine and have had both the Mondavi Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon and like them very much. This wine is s smoother and lighter red than those.

The Blond Five is a blend of chardonnay, Moscato, pinot grigio, Sauvignon Blanc and viognier. It’s definitely a sweeter white than I usually drink. It would be perfect for a cookie exchange or after-dinner drinks.

CK Mondavi wines are produced in the Napa Valley and are 100% American grown, produced, and bottled. A large portion of the grapes is state grown on the family’s 1,850 acres of vineyards or are sourced from vineyards that the family has had partnerships with for generations. CK Mondavi Family Vineyards produces consistent, vintage-to-vintage wines, providing consumers with a value and quality they can trust. The family is now proudly welcoming members of the fourth generation to the business, continuing a legacy started 70 years ago, one destined to continue for generations to come.
Mondavi wines can be found in grocery and specialty stores.
