Climb the Walls! Rock Climbing for Kids in Lake County

If you’re tired of your kids climbing your furniture, walls, and everything else in your house it’s time to harness those monkey abilities and head to an indoor rock wall. While you can find rock walls at some outdoor playgrounds the benefits of an indoor wall our numerous. Children will be harnessed, supervised, and taught how to do it safely, they also have padded landings and no mud!

Libertyville Sports Complex
1950 N. Highway 45, (corner of Peterson Rd & Rte 45) Libertyville | 847-367-1502
The climbing mountain is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, Sunday 11:00 a.m. – 3:00p.m. through June 8, extended summer hours begin June 8. Children must be 40 inches tall and have a guardian present to sign a waiver. Admission is $10 (multiple visit passes available). Monday’s and Wednesdays they offer half off to scouts who come in uniform.

Hunt Club Park Community Center
920 N. Hunt Club Rd., Gurnee | 847-623-7788
The community center has a 24 foot climbing wall, hours vary so check the website. Children must be at least 6 years old and 40 inches tall to use it. Wall can be used for free by Gurnee residents and is $1 for non residents.

Fogila YMCA
1025 N. Old McHenry Rd, Lake Zurich | 847-438-5300
The wall is available Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.. For non-members your first three visits are free, after that you must join or pay the daily drop-in fee of $15 for adults and $10 for children.

Field House Sports & Fitness Center
Waukegan Park District, 800 Baldwin Ave, Waukegan | 847-782-3625
Open climb hours are Monday and Wednesday 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. and Saturday 1000 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.  and cost $5 per visit (free for members).  You must wear tennis shoes and sign a waiver.  Children must be at least 6 years old. Round Lake Area Park District Sports Center

The sports center has a wall and offers classes but does not currently offer open climb times. Call the center and ask about setting up an appointment.  If you have really little ones there is a mini wall at the Neighborhood Children’ Museum.

North Wall Rock Climbing

This facility is nothing but rock climbing on different heights, arrangements, and levels are available. Daily passes are $14 for adults and $7 for children. Every Wednesday night is community night where day passes are only $10 after 7:oo p.m. and rental shoes are just $2. Classes, camps, and after school clubs available.
