AAUW Preschool is a cooperative preschool where young children are respected, nurtured, and encouraged. Every day at AAUW, your child will have opportunities to wander, explore, and discover in our indoor and outdoor learning environments. Children walk into a classroom structured by the teacher and see a world of endless possibilities. They initiate and engage with a wide variety of materials that encompass all learning areas. Through this purposeful play, children make connections that build knowledge.
AAUW Preschool, Waukegan
AAUW Preschool offers many special moments and opportunities for learning and growth every school year including watching worms compost classroom scraps in our worm bed, trying out a variety of musical instruments, walking through our butterfly garden, experiencing dance with a real ballerina, listening to guest readers from the Great Lakes Navy Base, exploring emotions through stories, hiking through the Van Patten Woods, as well as discovering the natural world through our enhanced outdoor curriculum. The director and teaching staff are well-versed in the following areas: language development, math, science, ecology, the arts, play environments, brain development, and child development. Family events and parent workshops are scheduled throughout the school year.

The AAUW Preschool facility was specifically designed with children in mind. It includes large, low windows, child-sized sinks and bathrooms in each classroom, and one-way mirrors for parents to observe their children. It is situated on a large one-acre lot, which allows for more outdoor learning and playing. Our large fenced-in outdoor environment is an extension of the indoor classroom and allows for large motor development and learning through nature. In addition to large climbing equipment, a tricycle path, an outdoor playhouse, and a sledding hill, the outdoor learning environment includes a sensory path, a boardwalk through a butterfly garden, and loose parts play area.

AAUW is a wonderful preschool. I attended thirty years ago, and my wife and I are thrilled now that our daughter is attending. She love’s the program, has grown a lot thanks to the program, and enjoys ever day at her school.
