Cravings Satisfied with Advocate Condell Medical Center!

The stork had an early delivery for new moms who attended our Mom’s Night Out, “Cravings: What New Moms Want” with Advocate Condell Medical Center.

Cravings

Our fine feathered friend didn’t bring newborns, but he delivered information, tasty treats, relaxation and lots of goodies for our lucky attendees at the Centre Club in Gurnee last Friday.

We curbed our cravings with a little help from Suzy’s Swirl frozen yogurt (located in Gurnee and Lake Bluff) and pickles from Holcomb Hollow. Did you know you can pickle watermelon rind? Delish!

Lindsey Shifley from Lake County Food Revolution showed moms how to make delicious, nutritious and easy recipes to support their bodies’ needs.  I could eat her pesto with a spoon!  Mark your calendars for Food Revolution Day on May 20th.

Carrying extra baby weight can cause tension in your back, neck and shoulders, so we were so grateful for pre-natal chair massage provided by the Centre Club in Gurnee.

To further ease tension, guests enjoyed a session of pre-natal yoga courtesy of Elaine C. Long.  She teaches Yoga on Mondays at 6:45 p.m. at the Centre Club in Gurnee.   All our guests took home a one-week free membership to the Centre Club location of their choice!

To satisfy our new moms’ need for education, we gathered a huge team of experts on pregnancy, infants, childbirth and new parenthood.  Advocate Health Care medical professionals such as OB-GYNE Associates of Libertyville, pediatricians from Advocate Children’s Medical Group, Lisa Plucinski, Coordinator of Lactation Services and Jennifer Johnson, Perinatal Education Coordinator helped moms navigate their medical needs pre- and post-baby.

Our guests were able to talk one-on-one with other service providers and resources that will meet their needs as new parents.  Guests met First Candle, an organization dedicated to helping babies thrive in their first year.  Babywearing International of Chicagoland Volunteer Babywearing Educators helped our guests try out and test a variety of baby carriers and demonstrated how to get the best fit for safety and comfort.

Our friends from Music-in-the-Box shared information about their developmentally-appropriate music and movement classes that you can enjoy with your infant to age 3, as well as Suzuki instruction through age 7.  Pediatric Interactions and WeeBits invited women to programs such as their New Moms Group and other workshops for parents and children.

Our soon-to-be-moms had their pick of presentations to explore topics in greater depth such as breastfeeding.  We learned about the kind of services a trained doula can provide before, during and after childbirth from certified Doula and author, Holly Peckskamp.  Jenna Burris from Be the Change Counseling Services discussed how we can cope with the baby blues – join her on the first Wednesday of every month for her Post-Partum Depression Support Group from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in Grayslake.  Kim Schaf of Sleep Training Solutions shared how to get your baby started on the path to healthy sleep from the start.  Moms got the straight scoop on motherhood from local writers at Undercover Mother, Deepest Worth, A Grace Full Life and Peanut Butter in My Hair.

Even with all this our guests did not leave empty-handed.  Each and every one of our new moms in attendance received their own bundle of joy filled with discounts, products and information from Mabel’s Labels, Snickelfritz Toys, Earth Mama Angel Baby Organics just to name a few.
