Do it with Dad: Father’s Day Events & Activities

This weekend it’s time to celebrate dad! Whether your dad is an outdoors man or more of an arm chair quarterback there are lot’s of ways you can celebrate him by participating in his favorite activities.

Fishing:

Lake county is home to several great locations to take the kids fishing, or to give dad the day off to enjoy it on his own! The fishing guide from the Lake County forest Preserve District gives the details on all the locations including types of fish and depth charts. One of our favorite places is Nippersink Woods (Round Lake). It’s strictly catch and release at this location but the kids seem to catch something every single time they drop a line.

If you don’t want to invest in gear for the kids and dad’s not keen on sharing his the Illinois department of Natural resources has an Urban Access to Fishing program that provides equipment. Now Lake County might not seem urban to many of you but there are lots of locations where you can get the free equipment to use for the day.

If dad would prefer to fish by himself but wants to still do soemthing fun with the kids this weekend Bass Pro Shop (Gurnee) will have a catch and release pond set up inside it’s store. It’s part of their family summer camp which is filled with other summer fun activities and freebies.

Golf:

If dad loves to hit the links give him a night off to go experience Night Golf at Highland Park’s Sunset Valley Golf Course Friday June 15.

Luminaries are used to light tee boxes, fairways, and water hazards. Specially designed balls with a glow stick are used in place of a regular golf ball. Flags and hole locations are also lit with glow sticks to provide a target. If you’re afraid you won’t find the ball, don’t be. It’s actually easier than finding it during the day. Golfers will play 6-holes in this event. Come out with a group of friends, as a couple, or individually. Bring your clubs if you have them or we can provide them for you. Glow balls will be provided as well as glow necklaces and flashlights. This event is walking only (no golf carts).

If dad is more a family man Chevy Chase Golf course in Wheeling is having a special Family Night Event on June 15th that includes a putting competition, dinner and golf (registration required).

Kids can golf free at several locations in lake county, check out Play Golf America for details on  which courses are participating.

If the kids are younger and not so keen on the {slower} pace of golf you can  make it more fun at one of the indoor mini golf courses such as Glow Golf in Vernon Hills or at Rink Side Entertainment in Gurnee.
