Don’t worry, that sound you’re hearing is not the Zombie Apocalypse, although your kids might be perturbed over the disruption of Curious George.
Today, Wednesday, November 9, 2011, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Federal Communications Commission, and the National Weather Service will conduct the first national test of the Nationwide Emergency Alert System at 1:00 pm CST.
The test will assess the readiness and effectiveness of the current system and identify where improvements will need to be made. A bit of momentary inconvenience that should ultimately provide you with greater peace of mind.

This test should also pose a reminder that everyone should establish an emergency preparedness kit and emergency plan for their families. Visit for more information about how to prepare and stay informed in the event of an actual emergency.

The three-minute test will be on all broadcasters, satellite and digital radio and television, cable television and wireline video providers. For additional information on this test please visit FEMA.
