Earth Hour 2014 Superhero Ambassador Spider-Man

Earth Hour is a global initiative asking people to turn off the lights for one hour at 8:30 p.m. on March 29 to raise awareness for the planet.  Participating couldn’t be easier, gather up some candles and turn off all the lights!

You can have fun with it too. The actors and producers from Spiderman have teamed up to be superheros for the planet and if you join them you could win prizes! Share on Instagram how you’re a superhero for the planet using the hashtag #EarthHour #Spiderman and #YourPower. Get all the details and enter at the Earth Hour site.

Other things you can do to celebrate Earth Hour as a family?

  • Get out the flashlights and take a night hike around the neighborhood.
  • Take a night hike on one of the Lake County Forest Preserve’s Lighted Trails. These solar lighted trails are open until 9:00 p.m. through March 30 and Include one of our favorites Lakewood {Wauconda}
  • Play one of these fun night games we found on Kidspot, with bonus opportunity for a totally awesome photo op!
  • Reuse and Recycle and make some candles out of eggshells!
  • Have the kids decorate bags to use as luminaries or try your hand at making one out of a tin can and light up your walkway.
