We are so happy to welcome author, illustrator, and Caldecott medalist Matthew Cordell back to The Book Stall (811 Elm Street in Winnetka) for an after-school stories and drawing party. We’ll provide paper and pencil so kids can draw along! Last year’s Wolf in the Snow was one of our favorite books of all time, and we certainly were not alone in that–the book won the Caldecott Award for best illustrated picture book of the year from the American Library Association. He followed that right away with the wonderful King Alice, about a strong-willed little girl with a great imagination who spends time with her family, trapped indoors by bad weather. A visit from Matt is always a treat. He’ll share other recent work with us, including his newest picture book, Hope, which features a lion and lioness who are proud and hopeful grandparents.
Matthew’s program with us is free and open to the public. We recommend it for ages 4 and up. We’ll serve an after-school snack!
Matthew Cordell has illustrated many books for children, including Bob, Not Bob! by Liz Garton Scanlon and Audrey Vernick, and The Only Fish in the Sea by Philip C. Stead, as well as several he has written himself, such as the New York Times Notable Picture Book hello! hello! and Wolf in the Snow, which received the Caldecott Medal and a Boston Globe/Horn Book Award honor. He also wrote and illustrated Wish and Dream, the companions to Hope. Visit matthewcordell.com to learn more.
