Family Biking Events {Summer 2013}

Family Biking Events in Lake County

May was national Bike month but June and July are when we in the Midwest can finally dust off our bikes and start logging some serious miles. Lake County is blessed with wonderful trails and a community that loves to bike. Here is a look at some of the family focused events coming up this summer where you and your kids can enjoy some time together on your bikes!

Sunday June 9
Explore the Forest – 99 Years and Growing!
Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington, 12:00-4:00 p.m.
A full day of fun includes FREE bike tune ups!

Thursday June 13
Bling out Your Bike!
Indian Trails Public Library, Wheeling
Bring your bike to the library and get it ready to ride for the summer! The Library will provide decorations while supplies last. Age 8 and under must be accompanied by a caregiver. Event runs from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Call the library at (847) 459-4100 for more information.

Saturday June 15
Family Bike Ride and Picnic,
Van Patten Woods, Wadsworth, 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
The Lake County Forest Preserves and Waukegan Park District have teamed up to for a fun ride through the forest preserve! Enjoy games and nature activities after  your ride. Registration is required call (847) 968-3321 for information and to register.

Saturday June 22
Bike Barrington
All ages are invited to the first Bike Barrington Event! Meet at the Village Hall Parking lot for a day of fun filled , music, prizes, snacks and riding! There will be a kids obstacle course and a 2 mile family bike ride will begin at 9:30 a.m. Event runs until 12:00 p.m.  See the Barrington village website for more information.

Saturday July 20
Kids Bike and Run,

West Ridge Park, Highland Park 9:00-10:00a.m.
For ages 5-12, each participant will get a goody-bag, refreshment and a t-shirt. $15 by July 17, $20 after. For more information contact Eric Golman at (847) 579-3129.

Saturday August 3
Bike Rodeo
Paulus Park, Lake Zurich
Safe cycling can be a great source of family fun and exercise. Come and enjoy this interactive educational safety event. Bring your bike and helmet. Call (847) 540-5075 after June 15 for more information.

Friday August 9
Bike Rodeo at Gurnee Days
Gurnee
Bring out your bikes and helmets for this fun event to teach kids bike safety. For more information, including time and location see the Gurnee Days website.

Saturday August 24

Don’t have a bike to enjoy riding with your kids? It’s time to change that! . Huffy wants to see what you will find on your own wondrous ride. Share a picture of what you’ve seen on your bike while out riding and you will be entered for a chance to win a Huffy Cruiser of your own.
