Happy Hour with the Kids in Tow: Five Kid-Friendly Options in Lake County

Personally, I had no idea happy hour even existed any more because when I go out to eat, EVERY hour is happy hour if you get what I’m throwing down. But I don’t want happiness to elude you, so here is a list of the best kid-friendly Happy Hour’s in Lake County.

Five Kid-Friendly Options in Lake County

1.  Timothy O’Toole’s Pub and O’Toole’s Libertyville

Timothy O’Toole’s Pub
5572 Grand Ave., Gurnee | (847) 249-0800

O’Tooles Libertyville
412 Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville | (847) 984-2599

Either location of O’Toole’s is a great place to get your drink on with the kids in tow because on Mondays and Tuesdays, kids eat free at both locations. The Libertyville location offers half-price bottles of wine on Tuesdays as well, which could make dinner out with the kids epic. The Gurnee location has trivia night on Tuesdays after 8:00 p.m., which could be fun with the kids as well. Not as much fun as half price wine, but to each their own.

O’Toole’s Libertyville made Little Lake County’s list of Most Unique Grilled Cheese in Lake County, too.

2. Countyline Tavern
800 W. Lake Cook Rd., Buffalo Grove | (847) 520-7447

Located on the border of Lake and Cook counties, Countyline offers happy hour daily from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. and has one of the coolest kids’ menus in the area. With items like grilled salmon and popcorn shrimp, as well as the usual favorites, this is a great place to have some cocktails and kick back after a long day.

3. Mickey Finn’s
345 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville | (847) 362-6688

With an extensive beer menu, outdoor seating and a great kids menu, you can’t go wrong with Mickey Finn’s. With such kids menu items like pretzel bites with cheese, and grilled peanut butter and jelly, you might be eating off of their plate instead.

4. Milwalky Taco
605 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville | (224) 513-5766

I went here for the first time a few weeks ago and fell in love, especially with the calamari. (Get the calamari). Also go on Taco Tuesday when margaritas are half price and carnitas tacos are only two dollars. But don’t leave without trying the calamari while it’s available.

5. Prairie House Tavern
2710 Main St., Buffalo Grove | (847) 415-2255

For Sunday brunch, this is the place to be as they have $4 Bloody Marys and mimosas from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. They also offer a simple brunch menu including build your own omelettes, and skillets, in addition to a few more options. The less options you have, the better the food in my humble opinion.

I know there are a lot more of you who take your kids to Happy Hour and I love all of you.

Kari loves to write and take photos, not necessarily in that order. Her journey started in 2010 when she sat down to write a few words on a private blog. She pressed “public” a few weeks later and the rest is history. Kari loves making people laugh, being real, and spending time with her husband and two daughters. She also really loves her dog Buddy and fish Lucy. When she is not busy writing or going through the Starbucks drive thru, you can find her talking to her plants Zoe, Evie and Albert. She didn’t name Evie. Her nine year old did. But she's totally an Edna so that’s what Kari calls her when her nine year old isn’t home.
