Free Spring Break Activities in Lake County

The Weather is not screaming “SPRING” but many of the kids in our area are home for Spring Break this week. If you’re not traveling and you are looking for a way to entertain the kids without spending a fortune here is a list of special spring break activities being held that won’t cost you a cent.

Crafty Activities

Got a little artist on your hands? Check out these fun crafty activities. Also check out our calendar for details on drop-in crafts at Lake Bluff Public Library, Lake Forest Public Library, and the Wauconda Area Public Library.

  • Monday – March 25 11:00 a.m. Make your own Pop-up Book from Creativity for Kids or make your own Flip Book from Fliptomania. Brilliant Sky Toys and Books, Deer Park
  • Tuesday – March 26  11:00 a.m. Make your own Stunt Squadron Airplane from Creativity for Kids.  Brilliant Sky Toys and Books, Deer Park
  • Wednesday – March 27 11:00 a.m. Make your own Duct Tape Band/Bracelet from Alex. Brilliant Sky Toys and Books, Deer Park
  • Thursday – March 28 11:00 a.m. Make your own Shell Beach Buddy from Creativity for Kids. Brilliant Sky Toys and Books, Deer Park
  • Friday – March 29 11:00 a.m. Decorate A Miniature Breyer Horse from Breyer Brilliant Sky Toys and Books, Deer Park

Nature Activities

The brave and hearty will have the forest preserve trails and parks all to themselves with his frigid weather we are experiencing but that doesn’t mean that nature lovers need to settle for books and movies. There are plenty of fun nature based activities this week!

  • Monday – March 25 10:00 a.m. – Take in a Story a the Lenhardt Library at the Chicago Botanic Garden , then stick around and explore the green houses! (don’t forget to pick up your Museum Adventure Pass at your library for a discount on parking!)
  • Tuesday – March 26 & Friday- March 29 10:00 a.m. – The Wildlife Discovery Center– Lake Forest  is a unique combination of nature center, wildlife sanctuary, museum, and biological station featuring high-quality displays of live reptiles.
  • Tuesday – March 26 2:00 p.m. Playdate with Nature, Lakewood (Wauconda)
  • Wednesday – March 27 10:00 a.m. Wee Wanderer Bring your wee one out to explore with us. Ages 2 – 6 with adult. Crabtree Nature Center, Barrington

Free Movies

Instead of staying home glued to the TV get out and see a family movie on a big screen for Free! Most locations provide a snack if you bring a drink, check websites for details.

Museum Activities

Make a visit to one of our Lake County Museums more fun with free activities!

  • Monday – March 25  – Tuesday March 26 – Wednesday March 27 – Thursday March  28 12:00 p.m.. Stop by the Lake County Discovery Museum  during spring break for an afternoon of special activities and crafts. Free with admission.
  • Monday – March 25 1:00 p.m. Raupp Museum, Buffalo Grove will be featuring free walk-in activities from 1 – 3 pm Make a beaded suncatcher
  • Tuesday – March 26 1pm Raupp Museum, Buffalo Grove will be featuring free walk-in activities from 1 – 3 pm Plant seeds for spring
  • Wednesday – March 27 1pm Raupp Museum, Buffalo Grove will be featuring free walk-in activities from 1 – 3 pm Make butter
  • Thursday –  March 28 1pm Raupp Museum, Buffalo Grove will be featuring free walk-in activities from 1 – 3 pm clothespin butterfly
  • Friday march 29 1pm Raupp Museum, Buffalo Grove will be featuring free walk-in activities from 1 – 3 pm pinwheels
  • Prairie Grass Nature Museum, Round Lake is open all week for visitors with Free admission and activities.

Library Fun

Your local library has many activities to keep the kids busy from books and puzzles to drop-in storytimes. make a day of it with these other special Spring Break activities.
