Staying home for spring break doesn’t have to be boring, or cost as much as a vacation. We’ve gathered up some ideas and events perfect for school age children and their families to make the most of Spring Break in Lake County.
Always Free Fun:
Wildlife Discovery Center{1401 Middlefork Drive, Lake Forest}
This great little nature center is nestled into the historic buildings of Elawa Farm is is free all the time. Open Tuesday, Friday and weekends 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m
Prairie Grass Nature Museum {860 Hart Rd., Round Lake}
This always free museum is full of realistic exhibits, live animals and always changing activities. Open Tuesday-Thursday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
The Raupp Museum 901 Dunham Lane, Buffalo Grove}
This local museum showcases the history of Buffalo Grove through its local artifacts and special exhibits. Always free, over Spring Break they will be having walk-in activities every afternoon as well as nature walks.
Lincoln Park Zoo 2400 North Cannon Drive, Chicago
While of course there is parking if you go early you can sometimes get street parking, or use an app like SpotHero to find cheap parking. Admission is always free.
Lake County is home to many smaller and locally focused museums most are free. Of Course if you are willing to drive and brave crowds the Chicago Museums have Free Days.
