At Little Lake County as much as we want you to Shop Local we also want you to Give Local even more. After a weekend of steals and deals it’s time to come together as a community and help some local nonprofits as they try to close out their years on a high note. According to the National Center for Charitable Giving,
“Giving by individuals makes up the vast majority of contributions received by nonprofit organizations.” Individual giving accounted for 72 percent of all charitable contributions received by nonprofits in 2014.
That’s you, and me, and everyone on your block. By coming together on Giving Tuesday our gifts, no matter how small, can make a huge impact on our community, our county, and our Nation.
The following Five charities are all organizations that Little Lake County has worked to support this year. All of them focus on bettering the lives of Lake County families. Please consider helping them meet their year-end and long-term goals.

We introduced you to Caring 4 Kids Clothing back in August. Every year hundreds of children go without proper clothing. Caring For Kids Clothing helps provide these children with the clothing they so desperately need. You can donate to Caring 4 Kids online or purchase a ticket for their Big 50/50 Holiday Raffle, winner will be drawn live on Facebook on December 10. They are all still looking to fill children’s Christmas lists. If you would like to adopt a child’s list this Christmas please email [email protected]
PADS is the first point of contact for the homeless in Lake County and often the only hope for someone facing a long night in the harsh cold or blistering heat. They serve individuals, families with children, the mentally ill, and veterans, regardless of their reason for being homeless by providing vital services, such as emergency shelter, permanent supportive housing, street outreach, and social services. Learn more about what PADS does in our introduction story.
87% of all donations to PADS go directly to help the people they serve. Your donations help people get a safe place to sleep; a warm meal; counseling services; and more. Make an online donation here or mail monetary donations to:

The Diaper Depot is a Diaper Bank project run by Catholic Charities of Lake County. We partnered with The Diaper Depot this past summer as part of our Playground Tour. While run as a part of Catholic Charities, it’s part of the larger Diaper Bank Coalition of Lake County and distributes diapers throughout various agencies cross the county. To make an online monetary donation see the Catholic Charities Online Giving page. To make a donation directly to The Diaper Depot or to set up a diaper drive, contact The Depot directly at (847) 782-4117.
We have partnered with the United Way of Lake County and their Success By 6 Program as part of our preschool guide. We helped them develop their Kindergarten Readiness Calendar which many of you may have picked up at our playground tour, and we will have them on our winter tour as well. This calendar helps prepare kids for kindergarten with daily activities as well as suggestions and ideas for parents to make learning fun and engaging.
The UWLC’s Success By 6 Program offers free training and material for parents to become their child’s first teacher. The provide Early Learning Clubs, home visits, Early Learning Trails, and Countdown to Kindergarten Camp. All of this is provided to families free of charge to help their children succeed.
If you support the Success by 6 Program with a Giving Tuesday donation, P&G will match those gifts (up to $6,500) making your dollars doubly good! As a bonus, if you donate $52 or more you will be entered to with a trip to Los Cabos, Mexico. See their Giving Tuesday page for more information and eligibility.
