This week used to be about Thankfulness, in recent years it has become about shopping. I have even seen some ads call it Gray Thursday, ugh. If you’re like me and feeling a little overwhelmed with all the buy! Shop! Spend! Join me in doing a little part to turn the tide, join me in #GivingTuesday.
What is #GivingTuesday? #GivingTuesday has been created as a day to celebrate giving – a day when families, charities, business, community centers, students, retailers and more can come together to encourage more, better, and smarter giving during the holiday season. It’s a chance for America to show that it gives as good as it gets.
#GivingTuesday will take place on November 27, 2012 – the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
Over the next few weeks we’ll be introducing you to several ways to give back locally. To get you started here are some organizations where your purchases do more then just put gifts under the tree they help various causes with your purchases:
Make the season more meaningful while preparing our children to succeed in a changing world. Every gift is a unique way to honor the friends and loved ones on your holiday list by making a gift in their name. Make a donation in honor of or in memory of a special person who made a difference in your life.
Gifts include school readiness kit for a preschooler or sponsor a computer training night for high school parents, any gift you choose will bring both hope and encouragement. And because every tax-deductible gift goes toward our overall mission, you’ll help prepare children to succeed in a changing world. So shop early, and check out the catalog right now.
The 2012 catalog features 53 gifts of hope for a hurting world, including food for hungry children, clean water, dairy animals, and poultry that supply eggs and help create livelihoods for impoverished families.
