Trick-or-treating doesn’t have to happen on the block; these days there are lots of places to trick-or-treat. Grab your little ones and head to your nearest Halloween event! Here are all the great activities happening this month around Lake County.

10 October 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.- Trunks, Trucks or Treats
Vernon Hills Park District Family Aquatic Center
Wear your Halloween costumes to this exciting event! A variety of local organizations will display some of their most unique vehicles in the parking lot of the Family Aquatic Center. Bring your trick-or-treat bags too, because each organization will have candy and other treats available for you. $2 per person, tickets available for purchase online.

15 October 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. 8th Annual Pumpkin Fest
Grayslake Aquatic Center Fields
Trick-or-treat on the character trail, bounce in the bounce houses and more! Pre-registered child $8, registration at the door $12. Call the Park District at 847-2233-7259 for more information or to register.

16 October 5:30-7:30 p.m. West Ridge Trick-or-Treat
West Ridge Center, Highland Park
West Ridge program participants, friends, and family members are invited to trick-or-treat inside and play all kinds of spooky and silly games. Bring a bag to collect your treats and prizes.

17 October 3:00 – 8:00 p.m.Haunted Trail & Bonfire
Forest View Park, Lindenhurst
Wagon rides, costume contest, free entertainment, pumpkins and yummy treats for sale.  The little ones will enjoy a moonwalk, activities, games, and a straw maze, while the brave ones can walk through the haunted trail if they dare. The trail contains mortifying scenes with unnatural creatures awaiting to eagerly quench their undying thirst for your screams! At dusk the Lake Villa Fire Department will start the bonfire.

17 October 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.Lakemoor Trunk-or-Treat
Heritage Park
Trunk-or-Treat is a fun event that can be enjoyed by the whole family.  Trick-or-treating will be followed by a viewing of the movie Casper in the park.

17 October 2:00-5:00 p.m. Great Pumpkin Celebration
Rolek Community Center, Round Lake
This event features indoor trick-or-treating, costume contests, carnival games with prizes, kids entertainment, hayrides, an outdoor maze, plus refreshments for a small fee.

17 & 18 October 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.Trains, Tricks and Treats
Chicago Botanic Gardens, Glencoe
Families are invited to come in costume and trick-or-treat throughout the Model Railroad Garden to celebrate Halloween and the end of the railroad’s season. Admission rates apply, see the Chicago Botanic Gardens for more information.

Jewett Park Community Center, Deerfield
Halloween Hoopla returns to Jewett Park Community Center on Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24 with new activities and entertainers, inflatables, rides and great giveaways. For those who have attended the Hoopla for years, note the new schedule of events that will replace the Haunted House.

23 October 6:00- 8:00 p.m. – Trunk-or-Treat
Blair Park Parking Lot, Lake Bluff
What is a Trunk-or-Treat? It’s when families get together at Blair Park, park their cars in the lot, open up the decorated trunks of their cars, and kids come around to each car to Trunk-or-Treat. Children must register by October 16th to participate in this free event. Call the park district at 847-234-4150 for more information and to register.

23 October 6:00 – 8:00p.m. – Trick-or-Treat Path
Viking Park, Gurnee
Trick-or-treat through Viking Park with nearly 50 of your favorite friendly characters. This event is for children age 1-6 and is held outdoors. Parents must attend but do not have to pay. 6:00-7:00 p.m. – Pre-Registered Children (Fee $7 Res/$9 Non-Res; Pre-register by Friday, October 16. SAVE $2 per child.) 7:00-8:00 p.m. – Pay at the Door (Fee $9 Res/$11 Non-Res)

23 October 7:00 p.m.  & 24 October 12:00 & 7:00 p.m. 5th Annual Princess Cabaret Halloween Party
Round Lake Area Park District Park School Campus Stage
Get ready for some tricks and lots of treats in this fun Halloween extravaganza! Your favorite princesses will be on hand with the villains from their stories to perform favorite songs and tickle your funny bone. Each show will end with meet and greet trick-or-treat with a chance for everyone to meet the characters up close, take pictures and of course get lots of candy! Children’s admission includes a trick or treat bag and a special take home treat. Cost: $10 per child; $5 per adult. Pre-registration is necessary.

23 October 6:30-8:00 p.m. Trick-or-Treat Trail and More
Community Arts Center, Buffalo Grove
You never know who you will see at our Trick-or-Treat Trail! Friendly characters will line the path at the Alcott Center to hand out candy and small prizes to children in this no-scare zone. The event is free, but please register in advance if you would like your child to be one of the 250 guests to receive a free goody bag. Contact the park district at 847-850-2100 for more information and to register.

24 October 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Deerfield Chamber of Commerce Downtown Trick-or-Treat
Visit Downtown Deerfield and look for the businesses with orange pumpkin signs in their windows inviting you to come on in and trick or treat! For more information visit the Deerfield Chamber of Commerce website.

Chicago Botanic Gardens, Glencoe
Celebrate Halloween, if you dare, at the Chicago Botanic Garden! Get in the Halloween spirit with face-painting festivities! Bring your camera to capture a photo of your costumed family in friendly or frightening surroundings. As night falls, walk through the Model Railroad Garden: Landmarks of America, decorated in ghostly lights and running special ghost trains; then take a ride around the Garden on the Howlin’ Tickets are required and prices vary see the Chicago Botanic Gardens for more information.

24 October 11:00 a.m. 2:00 p.m.- Spooky Zoo Spectacular
Lincoln Park Zoo, Chicago IL.
Worth the trip! Spooky Zoo Spectacular is a safe and fun way for children to trick or treat and learn about animals. Guests will make crafts, enjoy entertainment, trick or treat, and enjoy a child-friendly haunted house at Lincoln Park Zoo! Contact Lincoln Park Zoo for more information.

24 October 3:00-6:00 p.m. – Treat the Streets and Monster Mash
Downtown Antioch
Get the costumes ready! Kids will trick-o- treat in downtown Antioch, play games, and enjoy entertainment.

24 October 4:00-7:00 p.m. – Boo Bash
Mundelein Community Center & Community Park
Enjoy this free Halloween-themed event for kids ages 3-11 and parents. Candy and treats are provided by local businesses. Other activities include a straw pile with prizes, games and visits by familiar characters, tractor pulled wagon rides and food for purchase. This event is held rain or shine. No registration is required and costumes are encouraged. Parental supervision is required of all children.

25 October 2:00-6:00 p.m. – Trick-or-Treat on Main Street
Main Street Wauconda
Dress up in your costume and trick or treat in downtown Wauconda. Stop in each of the shops for treats, games, and special deals. This free family event also has bouncy houses, a pet costume contest, spooky stories, a pumpkin carving contest, and carnival style games.

26 October 10:30 a.m., 28 October 6:00 p.m. & 29 October 1:00 p.m. – Halloween Story Time Parade at Grayslake Library
Stories, fun and a trick-or-treat parade through the library in your costume. Preschoolers to age 6. Registration required.

27 October, 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. Trick or Treat Store to Store Candy Stroll
Downtown Highland Park
Children are invited to go store to store for the annual candy stroll. Music, free pony rides, and much more will be located at both the Plaza at Port Clinton Square (3-6 p.m.) and on theRenaissance Place property (4-6 p.m.). We look forward to another great year of this annual community tradition! Enjoy specials at many of the local stores as well.

30 October 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. – Fall Fest
Sullivan Community Center, Vernon Hills
Children and their families will enjoy indoor trick-or-treating, a magic show, a face painter, carnival games, and a costume contest. Refreshments will be available for purchase. Tickets: $1 each for those 2 years and older. $5 each if purchased on October 30th. Tickets available for purchase online.

Trick-or-treat in town! Bring your camera and trick-or-treat down MainStreet in a safe and fun family event.

30 October 5:00-8:00 p.m. Halloween Fest and Trail of Treats
Shiloh Park Zion
Trick-or-treat through Shiloh Park then head to the Zion Park District Leisure Center! There will be a variety of fun fair games with candy, toy prizes, face painting, a hay ride and a bouncing chamber. Wear your best costume for the costume contest.

Dress up in your Halloween ‘finery’ and enjoy games, trails and oodles of spooky fun at “Boowen Park”. This is a free event for the whole family and takes place rain or shine.

Each child that comes in costume will receive a free trick-or-treat bag to collect sweet treats around the farm.

  1. The time posted for trick or treating in downtown Antioch was wrong. It was from 12pm to 2pm, not 3pm to 6pm as posted here. We missed the whole thing…..
