Homesteading with Hyacynth: Before You Buy Your Thanksgiving Turkey

HomesteadingHyWelcome to Homesteading with Hyacynth!

Homesteading with Hyacynth is a monthly look at ways to lead a healthy, greener, more sustainable life. My intent with Homesteading with Hyacynth is to offer genuine, practical experiences and humorous and helpful tips. Of course, I am not a medical professional so these are my tips and what worked for my family.

Thanksgiving out of the box

While pumpkin pie is usually the apple of my eye at Thanksgiving feasts, there’s no denying that the bird is the actual centerpiece of the entire meal.

And boy oh boy can a good bird go real far at your feast and even beyond your feast day. I mean, leftovers wise there’s just so much that can happen in the aftermath of a good turkey — turkey sandwiches, turkey dressing, turkey soup, turkey stock. One bird can go a long way.

If you want the best bird local has to offer read on! These farmers have pasture-raised turkeys, all of which have had ample time to run around and peck at the grass and insects, have been supplemented with only non-GMO feed and have not been given rounds of hormones or antibiotics.

Why do you want a pasture-raised bird like that? The health benefits are undeniable — all the way from vitamins and nutrients density to fat content to caloric difference.  In fact, you may want to read in detail about consuming meat products over at the Weston A. Price Foundation if you need a little more science to support these claims.

Without further ado, it’s my pleasure to share these fine farmers with you!
