Foss Swim School offers indoor, year-round swim lessons at locations in Libertyville, Highland Park, South Barrington, Lakeview and Niles. Read about our experience with the Foss Difference. 


Never mind the cold weather, falling leaves, and soon to be snow covered streets. The pool is still the place to be in and around Lake County. So, don’t box up those swim suits yet, check out our list of indoor pools and water parks in the area.

Hours can change so please be sure to call ahead or check the website before heading out. Also, some pools may require you to be a member or live in the district.

Aquadome Pool

Open Swim: Fridays 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 1:30-4:00 p.m.
The pool is open to pass holders and daily guests. Inflatables and toys are set up at the Aquadome during weekend open swim periods. An adult (18 years old or older) must accompany children younger than 7 years old. Be sure to check the Aquadome website for changes due to school activities.

Open swim is $6 per person.
See their schedule for days and times of open swim. They have open swim sessions almost every day of the week including on Columbus Day.

Games, toys, etc. will be allowed as long as the use of them does not create a safety hazard for self or others. They may be removed depending on the attendance levels. A parent must be in the water with children younger than  eight years of age. A family locker room is available for families with children under the age of twelve.

Foglia YMCA

Must be a member to use the pool, however you may get a free day guest pass (3 per person, per year) . In addition they also have a community day once a month on a Friday night where the facilities are free.

Foglia YMCA has open swim hours daily including on Columbus Day. See their schedule for exact days and times. Children 11 and younger MUST be accompanied by an adult 16 years of age or older IN the pool, within an arms length away at all times unless they have passed the swim test. Guardian must be within viewing area at all times.

Fee: $10 per child

The Highland Park location has  family fun swim is every Friday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. The Libertyville location has family fun swim every Sunday from 3:00- 5:00 p.m.
Use their pool toys and equipment for fun to show off your swimming skills.  Their water is 91 degrees so it is perfect for even the chilliest of days. Family Fun Swims are open to FOSS  families and their friends. Non-FOSS families are always welcome.  However, all children must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-Registration is also recommended as space is limited.  Check out Melissa’s review on Foss.

 

Illinois Beach Resort & Conference Center

Access the full-service health club with a one-day guest pass of $10 (complimentary for resort guests.) Day Pass includes access to large swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna, locker room and other fitness amenities. Guests younger than 15 must be accompanied by an adult in all areas of facility. Lake Forest Community High School

Daily fee for open swim : Adult Residents $7 /$12 non-residents, Children / Seniors $6 Residents/ $11 Non-Residents. There is NO CHARGE for children younger than 3 years old. Lake Forest High School students are free with student ID . Family swim sessions are available on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, see website for times.  Rentals for parties are also available if you call ahead.

A child may be unaccompanied in the water if they can swim 20 yards without a flotation device. A skill test will be administered by our staff.   If a child is using a flotation device, an adult must accompany him/her in the water and the device must not be inflatable. We will provide a suitable device.

Libertyville High School

The pool is  open Sundays from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. There will be no public swimming during the holidays. Children younger than ten (10) must be accompanied by an adult.

Daily Fee for Open Swim: Adult $6 res./$8 non-res., Children (3-16) $5 res./$7 non-res., Family of 3 $10 resident/ $15 non-res. Children 3 and under are FREE with a paid adult.
Family Swim is scheduled for the first and last  first and last weekend of the month at the times posted on the schedule on Friday evenings, Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Reminder, children 10 and younger must swim with a parent/guardian 16 years or older who remains within arm’s reach. Youth between the ages of 11 and 15 years must have an adult parent/guardian on the deck.

Northwestern Lindenhurst Health & Fitness Center

All ages open swim is free to members of the fitness club. However, you can get a free day pass to check it out for one day.
There are all ages swim hours on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. See their website for exact times times.

All ages are welcome to enjoy swimming and playing in the lap pool during supervised swim when a certified lifeguard will be on duty. A parent must be in the pool with children under the age of 10. Children ages 11 and 12 must be accompanied by a parent in the natatorium. Children ages 13 to 15 do not need adult supervision; however, a parent must remain inside the building at all times.

Recreation Center of Highland Park

Bring the whole family for a splashing good time in the Recreation Center of Highland Park’s pool during open swim. Children ages 11 and under must be supervised in the pool area by an adult at least 16 years or older. When two guards are on duty, a child must be 12 in order to swim on his or her own at the pool. If only one guard is on duty, a child must be 16 to swim on their own unless he or she has permission from the Aquatic Coordinator.

The Highland Park Recreation Center pool has a Halloween event called Trick & Swim on October 16th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Kids will swim the first hour, then decorate pumpkins and Taffy Apples. Participants must be able to swim 15 yards of any stroke. The cost is 15 dollars and registration is required.

Entrance and parking to the pool is located on south-east side of building. The entrance to the building is labeled as “Pool and Gym Entrance. Arctic Splash Indoor Pool

Children younger than 10 years must be accompanied by a swimming adult age 17 or older. Children younger than 5 years must remain within arms reach of a swimming adult at all times. Only U.S. Coast Guard Approved flotation devices are allowed; no closed-nose masks are allowed.

No school? No problem. On most school holidays and extended breaks, child-care is offered for children in grades K-8. Supervised activities are offered on-site and include swimming at the Arctic Splash indoor pool, games, sports, and crafts along with a snack. Lakeview Fitness Center

Open swim fees for adults are $9 residents / $ non-residents and children are $5 resident / $7 non resident. The open swim is FREE to members of the Lakeview Fitness Center.

The indoor swimming pool at Lakeview Fitness Center features four 25 yard lap lanes, a thrilling water slide and an enjoyable children’s play structure. The water slide will be made available during the scheduled time on the pool schedule and during select pool party rentals. Swimmers wishing to use the water slide must be 48 inches tall. The play structure is available upon request during open swim times. Only coast guard approved flotation devices are allowed in the pool and on the slide.

 

Worth the Trip

While not in Lake County this parks are just a short trip and if you’re looking for some wet fun they are worth the trip.

See monthly online schedule for open swim times for the whole family daily. They also have parent/tot swim for parents with kids under 6 years old on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings.

Fun and fitness go hand in hand in our 17,000 square foot indoor water park.  Upon entering the pool area, you’ll find yourself surrounded by a massive sea-scape mural and greeted by a blast of warm air. The three water slides, in-pool playground, zero-depth entry, geysers and fountains combine to make one big indoor water park! Add to this four 25-yard lap lanes, a current channel, and a hot tub, and you’ve got a one-stop fun and fitness destination that you and your family are going to love all year round!

Daily Fee for Open Swim: $6 per person, Children 23 months and under are FREE with a paid adult. There are membership options and punch cards available for purchase.

Family Swim is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00-5:00 p.m. Family Swim Hours are designated for patrons of all ages to swim and enjoy the spray play features and slides in both pools (unless otherwise noted). Two to three lap lanes are available for those patrons 13 years of age and older who wish to swim laps. Children under the age of 9 must be supervised by an adult at least 16 years of age or older. This adult must be in proper swim attire and within an arm’s reach of the child at all times. Children must be 42” tall to ride the large waterslide.   They have a store where you can purchase towels, swim suits, goggles, etc. As well as a childcare center if you want to go in the hot tub without the kids.

Foss Swim SchoolFoss Swim School offers a year-round program that is session-based by season and includes Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall sessions. Each session offers Weekly Swim Lessons, 4-Week Progress-Builder Swim Camps® and/or 2-Week Progress-Builder® Swim Camps. Each option is designed to give families, instructors, and most importantly, your swimmer a definable time to focus on swimming. Seasonal sessions are more effective than continuous programs and deliver predictable, quality results. Winter session starts on January 2, registration opens on October 8.
