Introducing Kirby’s Kids: Little Hands, Big Hearts

Do you know of an extraordinary child here in Lake County who you would call a “hero?” Maybe they decided to collect hats and mittens for the homeless, maybe they ran a lemonade stand to buy school supplies for underprivileged kids, or maybe they are bravely facing the everyday struggle of a chronic illness while raising awareness of their disease.

At Little Lake County, our hearts are touched by these stories, and we know your hearts are too.  When one of our readers shared a sweet story about the Carmel High School Football team and their polite and respectful behavior at a local ice cream spot, our readers went wild with pride and support.  These acts of kindness, great and small, are missing from our front pages and newsfeeds. We want to change that.

That’s why we’ve teamed up with our friends at Great Lakes Credit Union to launch a brand new initiative…Kirby's Kids

Kirby’s Kids: Little Hands, Big Hearts

This program seeks to recognize inspirational, courageous and exceptional young people living in Lake County, (ages 15 and under) who are making an impact in their communities and serving as role models.  We need your help to find these kids and to tell their stories.

Each month we will select one child from reader nominations to be named one of Kirby’s Kids.  Kirby Kangaroo is the friendly, money-savvy mascot of Great Lakes Credit Union!  He’s looking to reward kids for being outstanding examples.  Selected Kirby’s Kids will receive the following:

  • A profile sharing their story and mission on Little Little Lake County
  • Meet & Greet and photo opportunity with Kirby Kangaraoo
  • Story and photos shared on the Little Lake County Facebook page
  • A Youth Savings Account from Great Lakes Credit Union with a starting balance of $50
  • Editor’s Update (9/1/2016):  Great Lakes Credit Union has graciously increased their reward to a $100 opening balance!

Simply fill out the nomination form below, or follow this link to complete a nomination form.  If your nominee is selected we will contact you and/or the child’s guardian for inclusion in the Kirby’s Kids program.

These kids deserve all the fanfare we can give them.  It only takes one small drop to create a ripple effect. Let’s show these little hands how much we appreciate their big hearts!
