It Starts with Me: Give Back Parent Child Volunteering Event with GLCU

LLC Gives back is proudly supported by Great Lakes Credit Union.

The Little Lake County Gives Back program is a community outreach effort to connect not-for-profit organizations with our readers.

The world can use a bit more kindness these days. It’s why we’ve partnered with Great Lakes Credit Union to showcase Kirby Kids. Kindness isn’t big and grand gestures it’s hundreds of little things done every day by ordinary people.

Kindness starts at home, with actions that are caught not taught.

Kindness starts with me, and doing what I can with what I have.

Kindness starts with you, and doing what you can with what you have.

Kindness starts with US, and doing what WE can with what WE have.

parent child volunteering

As part of our Little Lake County Gives Back program we have partnered with GLCU to give families an opportunity to spread kindness through two hands on parent/child volunteer events. These events will allow parents and children to give back to their community in a hands on way. Working side by side to help a charity. Our first event at Bernie’s Book Bank in May was a HUGE success!

Our next event will be on September 6, 2017 and we will be volunteering with the Northern Illinois Food Bank.

The Northern Illinois Food Bank is a member of Feeding America and serves the collar counties of Chicago. The Food Bank serves more than 71,000 people each week, our neighbors, with children making up 36% of that number. Started by Sister Rosemarie Burian in 1983 the bank has been operating in the are for over 30 years.  Parent and children volunteers will be visiting the North Suburban center in Park City. Tasks will vary from sorting, packing, stickering and more.  For this event children will need to be 8 years of age or older and accompanied by an adult – 4 children to  1 adult maximum.

Every Parent/Child pair that registers on or before August 11 will receive a t-shirt with our Kindness Begins with Me image (above). They will also get to meet Kirby the Kangaroo from GLCU. This event is best for elementary school children who can follow direction and control their behavior. Every parent in attendance will need a child and every child will need a parent. The Food Bank requires a 1 to 4 ratio of adults to children so we are asking parents to bring no more than 2 children each.

This event is extremely limited so you need to register each parent and child to reserve your spot. To make an even larger impact and to help ensure that people who save spots will attend we are collecting a $10 donation for the Food Bank per family. For every $1 that the we raise the food bank is able to provide $8 worth of nutritious groceries meaning your donation is $80 worth of groceries for a family in need!

Kindness begins with us, we hope you will join us!
