It’s Thursday Concert Series

Antioch, IL

Editor’s note, this is a personal review from 2012. We have updated it to include this years dates however your experience may vary.

My family and I recently went out to the “It’s Thursday” concert series in Antioch. I had heard about this for years, but never attempted it with the kids due to the 7:30 p.m. starting time. But, we met another couple with kids and decided to try it out, bedtime could wait!

The concerts are held in the bandshell at 902 Skidmore Dr. in Antioch, which is right behind Main Street. You can just park in the back parking lot there, and walk on over. We arrived at 7:15, and there were a few spots left in the lot. Otherwise, you may have to park on the street, which isn’t that far of a walk.

Make sure to bring some folding chairs if you don’t want to sit on the grass. We also brought a blanket for the kids to sit on, but they never used it, and it got crumpled pretty quick. I also had a ball for the kids to use, and some light-up toys as it got dark. It was nice to pull them out for a diversion when they got bored. Be sure to pack drinks for your party as well as snacks for the kids. There are a couple of tents that sell drinks for kids (and adult beverages), as well as hot dogs and hamburgers if you prefer. We bought a bag of popcorn for $1. There is plenty of lawn space to set up your area, as well as a sledding hill in the back to sit on. Many families with kids chose to sit on the hill. We sat in the lawn area, and there was still enough room for the kids to run around and dance. One of my worries was how loud the music would be, and I was pleased to find it was not too loud where we were sitting.

All in all, it was a great time to let the kids dance and play, while we could actually socialize with our friends. We saw a great country band, which was very nice for the whole family. I will definitely be going back on another Thursday night. There are still a few bands left this summer- check out the website and see if you can make it.
