Advocate Condell is a hospital that believes in breastfeeding and offers resources from prenatal classes to on-staff lactation consultants and a lactation warm line for mothers to call in with questions. They also host a Breastfeeding Success class. Having used both the lactation consultant on staff after delivery and the lactation warm line, I can assure you that Advocate Condell has truly set up a working support system for mothers. I felt heard, cared for and learned what worked best for my baby and me while working with them.

La Leche League of Central Lake County

La Leche League of Libertyville

Under the same principles and guidance as La Leche League of Central Lake County, these mothers meet in Mundelein to discuss breastfeeding and support one another. Their meetings are free to attend. I attended these meetings as a pregnant, first-time mom and felt encouraged and educated.

Amy is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant who strives to assist and encourage mothers in their breastfeeding relationship. There is nothing like having one-on-one, in-home support from a lactation consultant. Amy is trained to help with issues such as: low supply, over-supply, latch techniques, anatomical issues, as well as general breastfeeding education. A La Leche League group meets here, too! New Mother New Baby is a hot spot to shop for your breastfeeding needs including equipment, bras and other breastfeeding apparel. Not only are they a top supporter of breastfeeding, but they also offer classes on parenting, introduction to herbal medicine, and mother-baby classes, as well.
North Shore University Health System

North Shore University Health System is full of nurses and resources for mothers who plan to nurse. They host a Breastfeeding Basics class that shares research-based information about the why and how of breastfeeding. The class covers beginning a breastfeeding relationship, maintaining supply, returning to work and throughout the weaning process. They also offer in-hospital and outpatient lactation consultation services.
PediaTrustGrayslake and Highland Park |(847) 579-9237
PediaTrust is a group of seven independent pediatric practices that offer lactation support to nursing mothers. They work with certified lactation consultants to assess a nursing relationship and help mothers formulate a plan for success. Consistency of care is key to PediaTrust in that they check in with pediatricians to be a cohesive team. They also help with obtaining pumping supplies, rentals and working with insurance. Preparation for Breastfeeding at Northwestern Lake Forest

This class was designed by lactation consultants to cover everything from anatomy to latching, common issues and pumping. Since lactation consultants are not on staff in the birthing center, this class is helpful to new mothers before delivery. The class is recommended for first-time parents or as a refresher course and is recommended during a woman’s third trimester.

Who or what served as the greatest support to you while breastfeeding? Do you have any suggestions? I received Breastfeeding Made Simple at a La Leche League meeting (the author ran the group at the time) and recommend it to everyone I know who chooses to breastfeed!
