We had an idea…inspired by Cheryl’s playground crawl. A rock-inspired tour of playgrounds in Lake County.
4 weeks
5 playgrounds
1,000+ snacks
3 boxes of chalk
Hundreds of kids
1 unforgettable Playdate
We asked you to come to play, leave your neighborhood parks and try something new, and boy did you! Our first stop at Bowen Park in Waukegan had over 200 children and their adults visit with us to play, craft, hike and have fun!
We moved on to Grayslake’s newest park, Central Park {west}. Where we hung out with celebrities {of the furry kind}, got our rock tattoos {of the temporary kind} and had a great time.
Next up was a hidden gem of Century Park in Vernon Hills. We painted and climbed, slide, and ran under the gorgeous August Sun.
Our last planned stop was at Kracklauer in Mundelein. Mundelein’s first and oldest park is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. We explored the creek, caught bugs, danced in the gazebo, and swung until we touched the sky.
We weren’t ready to call it a summer yet and so we had one last fling, in the evening, an encore performance if you will. We hung out with the Gurnee Park District’s Rec-Mobile at O’Plaine Park. We ran, and tossed, and played until the sunset on a great night and an awesome tour.
The biggest applause of all has to go to our sponsor, who would not have been possible without this. Whole Foods Market – Deerfield has been Lake County’s source for all-natural, organic products for 14 years. They provided us with snacks at every stop, over a thousand all-natural healthy snacks were passed out to praises from all the kids on hand.
Be sure to give them a thumbs up on Facebook and thank them for sponsoring the event and for the tasty snacks. Check out their event calendar for upcoming kids’ classes and events.
Thank you for rocking with us Lake County! We can’t wait to do it again next year!
Where do you want to see us go next summer? Tell us in the comments which parks you think should be on next years tour!
