I am kind of a particular when it comes to my kids’ backpacks. For one, I am, in my kids’ words, no fun at all. There are no characters on their backpacks because I require them to last more than one year. With four kids there is no way I am buying multiple backpacks a year, I would be broke! When looking for a backpack I want a quality pack that will suit them for years to come. My oldest is going into seventh grade and was in need of replacing the backpack he had been carrying for 7 years* to a more grown-up style that would hold more books and a potential laptop. So when Beckmann USA offered to send me one of their backpacks for my son I jumped at the chance.
Beckmann is a Norwegian backpack company that designs bags with safety and durability in mind. Coming from a country that values walking and riding bikes to school, all the packs take into mind both weather as well as the ergonomics, comforts, and safety of a child’s back. How? The bags are designed to keep the weight away from the spine and shoulders. It has wide padded straps that distribute the weight and make heavy loads more comfortable. We received the Classic 30L and my son was excited that it was top loading with a drawstring. Great for a kid who frequently forgets to zip up his bag, nothing will fall out anymore. The lid covers the top of the backpack ensuring that dirt, dust, rain or snow doesn’t get inside or on his materials. It even comes with a rain cover that can be stored in the top flap and will cover the entire bag. Since we are hoping this lasts him into high school (where he will be walking/biking) this could come in handy!
The bag is stylish and classic in blue with reflectors on all sides and lots and lots of pockets. After having it for a few days and loading it up with school supplies my son exclaimed, “More pockets! I keep finding secret pockets!” The bag itself has a rigid back which smaller children may find uncomfortable, but is perfect for a middle schooler and will protect a laptop or tablet being carried to and from school. He easily fit his binder, folders and my laptop in with plenty of room to spare. While there is not a mesh bottle pocket, the side pockets are deep and have plenty of room for a drinking bottle without the worry of it spilling in and mingling with the books and papers. One side pocket also has an attached key ring, perfect for the child who is constantly misplacing things.
Overall, we are both highly impressed with this backpack and are confident it will last for many years to come. Beckmann USA offers backpacks and bags for preschool through college in a variety of styles and sizes. I loved that the website has it broken down by grade making it easy to find the backpack that we needed.

Disclosure: We were sent a Beckmann Classic 30L Backpack to facilitate this review. All thoughts and opinions are my own and no other compensation was received.
Is there any separation or pockets in the main compartment? My kid needs space to stuff her snow pants in the winter and I like them separate from her papers so she doesn’t squish the papers. Do you have anymore pics? I’d love to see any additional pockets and the pockets that hold a water bottle (will it hold a 27 oz Klean Kanteen or a 17 oz S’well?)
