You’ve likely seen the large purple signs on the side of the building located in the outlot of the Jewel-Osco on Belvidere Road. Don’t let the mall exterior fool you. As soon as you walk in, you will start to feel relaxed by the modern design and welcoming space.
Massage Envy offers massage, skin care and stretching services on a membership basis. You can make an appointment at anytime for any of their services, even if you aren’t a member. However, membership affords you bonuses and discounts that certainly make it worth being a member.
A $65 monthly membership provides one session of your choice — either a 60 minute massage, a stretching session, or a facial. You also have the option of adding on features such as aromatherapy, hot stones or extra time. Non-members services start at $95 for a 60 minute massage. It’s an investment in your health as much as any gym membership with one added benefit — services roll over. Have a busy month? Miss a session? No problem, use it next month, and you can also share with other family members.
This might make it sound like a very corporate experience, like you are a cog in a massage machine? My experience was anything but that. Upon arrival I was given a tablet and told to go sit in a comfortable waiting room where there was beverages available. I was to fill out my information including areas I want them to focus on and areas I want them to avoid. I have had many massages in my life and it was nice that they asked where to avoid, something I had not been asked before. That tablet actually hangs in the massage room with the areas marked so that the therapist knows what she should and should not do.
The massage was excellent and the rooms were comfortable. Not too hot or cold, and when I got a chill she turned the heat on the blanket so I would warm up quickly. The therapist was not chatty, but was sure to check in and ask about pressure and respond to my requests. As a mom of four, it was the most relaxing hour I had in a long time.
