In my house, we adore cookbooks.
Seriously, we have days where my kids will pull out all of my cookbooks and fold down pages of what they want to make or bake. We have a good time picking out our favorites, gazing at the gorgeous cookbook pictures and trying out new recipes. When I received The Lemonade Stand Cookbook, it was no different! The bright cover immediately appealed to my kids and they started flipping through the pages before I could even sneak a peek!

Not only is this book filled with delicious beverage recipes, scrumptious looking treats, and fun crafts, it also discusses how to actually run a lemonade stand! What sounds more fun to kids during the summer than having a lemonade stand? This book gives kids all the “how-to” they could possibly need, from setting up their stand, to getting the word out, and even how to manage money (which can sometimes be confusing for young children).
The award-winning author, Kathy Strahs, curated crafts and delicious recipes to give kids the education they need to be an entrepreneur. A former marketer and the founder of Burnt Cheese Press, a food-focused publishing company, Kathy has also written The 8×8 Cookbook and The Ultimate Panini Press Cookbook. She knows knows firsthand what it is like to be an entrepreneur.
The Lemonade Stand Cookbook has so many great features. I love the little lemon rating guide in the beginning called “Using This Book.” In order to make the recipes and projects accessible to all ages, she provided a key in the beginning pages that points out the difficulty level of the recipe or craft. This makes it easy for young children to look for the one- or two- lemon rating, while older children can focus on the two- or three-lemon rated activities.
The recipes in The Lemonade Stand Cookbook are perfectly appealing to kids. What child would not want to make a drink called “Cozy Hot Cocoa” or “LOL Lemon Orange Limeade?” My daughter wanted to try at least ten different varieties of sweets. We finally agreed on the Chocolate Dipped Marshmallow Pops and the Polka Dot Blondies.
This book definitely inspired my kids to hold their own lemonade stand. They had so much fun in the kitchen (we won’t talk about the mess we cleaned up later!) using the easy to follow recipes and helpful tips from the book. We also tried our hand at making one of the fun crafts, the friendship bracelets. It was such a fun experience overall, and with a little help from this book, we found a great way to spend a summer day!
This book is not only a great resource for fabulous recipes, it is a great how-to guide for kids and parents, or kids and their friends, to use together. The kids will spend time in the kitchen learning some baking and prepping skills, collaborating with family and friends, responsibility with money and have fun all at the same time! I highly recommend The Lemonade Stand Cookbook, and I guarantee you will love it, too!
