Editor’s note: As of July 2020 The Yoga Effect is a virtual only studio. This review is from an in-person experience.
I absolutely love this little studio in Grayslake. For moms and dads (and anyone else looking to transcend the daily grind), The Yoga Effect offers multi-level yoga classes, as well as Basics, Warm & Gentle, Prenatal, Anusara, Vinyasa Flow, Chair Yoga, and Hot Yoga (my favorite.) Classes are offered at a variety of times to fit everyone’s schedule. If you are like me and have made a New Year’s resolution to improve your flexibility, de-stress and strengthen the core, this is the perfect time to check out a class at The Yoga Effect. Your first visit is always free!

I love the Yoga Effect for lots of reasons. First, because it’s close to home and I can get a Spice Chai Tea Latte at a little coffee shop down the street called Something’s Brewing. (Sorry, I digress.) But also because the teachers are really focused on helping me learn proper alignment so I can continue my yoga practice at home, between loads of laundry and carpool duty if need be.
As busy parents know, escaping for even an hour a week can be challenging. I also love that the studio has super thick mats (that are actually CLEAN! No foot goo!), big heavy natural cork blocks and best of all lavender-scented eye pillows for a super relaxing Shavasana.

They also offer classes for kids ages 3-18. These include Yogi Sprouts, Girls Only Tween Time and Family Yoga. For parents of young children, drop off childcare is available for morning classes at nearby Peppermint Stick Day Care for a fee. Information on this service is available on The Yoga Effect website. Also, Children over 10 can attend an adults-only class with their parent (except for Hot Yoga.) I love the opportunity to attend class with my daughter. It’s one of the few activities we can do together that doesn’t send me to the chiropractor afterward!
Take a break . . . Take a breath . . . Take a moment . . . And get your Namaste on at The Yoga Effect this winter!
