LLC Loves: Non-Junky Stocking Stuffers

stocking stuffers

On years when we are organized we have the kids stocking planned out and bought, other years (like this year) stockings are stuffed from the grocery store on the day before.  The plus side of shopping local is you never have to wait for shipping! I’ve rounded up some of our favorite (non-junky) stocking stuffers for kids of all ages and where you can pick them up locally.

Chocolate: It’s the only candy they get in their stocking. Usually we pick up a Santa from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Company (Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville) or gold coins (we usually get them at Trader Joe’s.) Loralie has a whole list of locally owned chocolate shops.

Something to do in the car on Christmas Morning. We have a kind of long drive on Christmas and a little something to play with goes a long way! These are our favorites:

  • Water WOW! Books from Melissa & Doug – These no mess coloring books are perfect for toddlers and preschoolers alike. Pick them up at Green Kids Resale {Round Lake Beach}
  • My girls loved the Puffy Sticker Sets the got last year, also from Melissa & Doug
  • Crayons, Markers, Colored Pencils and something to draw on. Last year we picked up small sketchbooks and packs of supplies from Artist @Heart.
  • Interesting Coloring Books (to go with above) my big kids love the Hidden Creatures Coloring Books and everyone (even mom) loves the Usborne Christmas Pocket Doodling. Learning Express Toys in Lake Zurich has a great selection of coloring and activity books

Awesome Toys in Small Packages
Anyone that has ever had the pleasure of opening a light blue box with a white ribbon knows that the best gifts come in small packages. However if you try to tell a kid that a tiny box is an awesome gift… they usually scoff, so we put those gifts in their stocking.

  • MiniFigures – LEGO, MineCraft, Shopkins, Littlest Pet Shop all are perfect stocking stuffers. These year my preschooler asked for ballerina figures in all the positions (think army men but ballerinas, which is a great idea!) the best we found were a 3 pack.
  • Hex Bugs – we love HexBugs and Hex Robotics. (side-note if you are looking for an amazing STEM or Robotics gifts Hexbug Vex Robotics is AWESOME!). We put a Hex Bug in their stocking almost every year. They are small and tons of fun!

Fun Useful Items

piggy paints

My girls are obsessed with painting their nails. These year they will be getting Piggy Paints in their stockings. Piggy Paint is a natural, Eco-friendly, hypoallergenic nail polish line for girls. Lots of Lake County Boutiques carry it, you can even find it in some Target and Wal-mart stores. The nail stickers are an added bonus for the bigger girl, her tiny fingers need smaller stickers!

fun office supplies

Debbie Lynn Inc. offers stocking stuffers perfect for teens and tweens (and office supply stealing husbands. Available at Wal-Mart and Five Below the line includes bright and smelly markers, emoticon post it notes and awesome erasers. My 3rd and 5th grader have huge eraser collections and are going to love these additions.
