I know you’ve got that person on your gift list.

Maybe you’re even married to him or her, there’s a person who is so incredibly difficult for which to buy a present that you’ve already spent all of your great ideas the past umpteen gift-giving holidays.

But what if I told you you could rock this holiday gift season with a practical, helpful and stylish gift ALL IN ONE for that one person who always leaves you stumbling?

The perfect pair of sunglasses or frames don’t just come wrapped in a cute little box with a sweet bow atop — this gift is one that gets a whole lot of play.

Glasses are a personal thing,” said Scott Kozie, The Eye Spot Optician. “It’s the first thing someone sees when greeting you. People are not looking at your shoes — they are looking at your eyes when they greet you. Glasses are the first piece of jewelry someone notices.

Not only does it get a whole lot of play, but this gift also gets a whole lot of play the whole year-round, with winter being an essential time to sport your shades.

It’s actually very important to wear sunglasses in the winter because the light bounces off of the snow and that’s actually worse for your eyes than summer sun,” said Dr. Svetlana F. Pikus, The EyeSpot optometrist. “These UV rays cause cataracts and age-related macular degeneration, so if you get into the habit of wearing sunglasses early and year-round, it will help slow the process [of degeneration].

One of my favorite things about The Eye Spot is the vast array of stunningly beautiful and unique frames, many of which are handcrafted. Before visiting The Eye Spot, I wouldn’t have described glasses as works of art or jewelry, but after my trip there, this 20-20 vision gal with an affinity for all things beautiful wishes she could have more than just a pair of sunglasses! With so many gorgeous, intricately designed frames from which to choose, I wish I had a pair of glasses for every season!

I never ever thought I would have wished this; before I went to The EyeSpot, picking out a pair of sunglasses was akin to trying on bathing suits! I have long felt like I could never ever find the right frames to compliment my face. So I’ve often given up and just bought any old cheap pair. Imagine my surprise when Kozie not only picked out one pair that rocked but three!  I even found one all by myself that’s on my wishlist for being turned into a pair of shades (The Eye Spot can take any frames and turn them into sunglasses!).

I bet I know what you’re thinking: but how would you possibly pick the perfect frames for someone without that someone trying the glasses on? How would you possibly keep it a surprise? This is where Optician Kozie comes in.

Having more than 25 years of experience and having helped dress many Hollywood eyes with the right frames, simply bring a picture of your loved one along with you, and Kozie can do his thing. How certain are you, I asked him if he could pick out the best pair of glasses from just referencing a simple headshot?

“I’m 100 percent confident,” he said. Then laughing, he added, “And there’s always the exchange policy!”

I like his confidence and style. But maybe you’d just as soon take your loved one in to pick his or her own? Go for it! Kozie will be there to help you find the right pair of frames, helping you find the right pair for your face.

“We do a lot of showing, not selling,” he said. “And it’s almost always a collaboration effort.

Here are a few of my favorites that I must highlight.

For the environmentalist: Drift (yes, these are made from driftwood!)

For the older family member: Because Dr. Pikus specializes in helping those with low vision get glasses for special activities like reading, you could give the gift of sight this holiday season to someone in your family who may not be seeing much of anything clearly.

The Eye Spot has frames and glasses for all the various people in your life including but not limited to the following:

  • sporty kid
  • the hipster
  • shabby chic
  • the intellectual
  • the biker (motorcyclist)

Of course, I can’t really do the frames carried at The Eye Spot justice nor can I really do justice for the entire store with pictures. Some of the glasses are just so beautiful, they really need to be viewed in person.

Doctor has one of the prettiest, best laid out stores I’ve seen in my 25 years. She’s brought a beautiful selection of eyewear to Libertyville and the surrounding areas,” Kozie said.

Check it out for yourself!
