Locally Grown: Nancy Wang of Rosy Lens Portraits {Kildeer}

Welcome to Locally Grown! Locally Grown introduces you to the people and stories behind Local Lake County businesses. Today it is our pleasure to introduce you to Nancy Wang of Rosy Lens Portrait Photography in Kildeer.

Locally Grown Post Header “Do what you love and you will never work a day in your life.” Not many people are actually able to live that out. Our Locally Grown entrepreneur of the month, Nancy Wang of Rosy Lens Portrait Photography, has done just that. Her long time passion of capturing moments on film is now her business and career.

Originally from China, Nancy and her family came to the United States when she was seven years old. Since then she has lived in Maryland and California, before her family finally settled in the Chicago area after she graduated from UC San Diego with a degree in Management Science.

Nancy worked in the corporate world for over 10 years in a constantly changing business environment. Jobs, projects, and goals came and went while nothing seemed to last. She began yearning for meaningful work that lasted, and she found this through photography, which had long been her hobby. And so about 3 years ago, Rosy Lens Photography was born.

Photography was always my hobby. In my free time I am trying to test out new techniques and google things online.

Also born 3 years ago was her beautiful daughter Lia. When asked about her family, Nancy smiles wide and gushes about her husband, John, of 7 years, her daughter, and her parents. Family is a priority in her life and is a value she has grown up with. Nancy’s mother resides with Nancy, her husband, and daughter in their Kildeer home. Her father is currently at home in China caring for his aging mother.

How do you balance family and your business?

Mom helps me a lot.  She lives with us, which gives me the flexibility to schedule.

What is one of your greatest challenges as a photographer?

Haha, as a photographer (and a mom), I am never in the photos! I realized that we really need to get more family photos done in the future.

Besides photography, Nancy enjoys renovating her home (she always has some project they are working on). Before children she and John traveled extensively, knowing that once they had kids it would be more difficult.  Some of their favorite places are Portofino, Italy, Barcelona, Spain, and Guilin, China. With her daughter she loves building Playdough dresses, looking for doll house accessories, and working on building a pretend town. “I use my daughter as an excuse to feed my pretend-play obsession.
