Welcome to Locally Grown! Locally Grown introduces you to the people and stories behind local Lake County businesses. This month we have gotten to know Dr. Svetlana Pikus. Dr. Pikus is the owner of The Eye Spot in Libertyville. Today we are going to learn more about of The Eye Spot Optical.
If you are looking for high-quality, comprehensive eye services, individualized attention and a handpicked selection of fine eyewear for the whole family, The Eye Spot Optical in Libertyville is the place for you. The welcoming, custom-designed interior and the expert optometrist and opticians here will make you feel right at home. And the optical shop is a treasure trove of unique and beautiful frames perfect for the entire family.
Improving the quality of life for patients is the goal of The Eye Spot Optical. In doing so, Dr. Svetlana Pikus strives to create a fun atmosphere that puts people at ease. And impeccable, personalized service is the cornerstone of The Eye Spot Optical.
I want every patient to feel very special for the two hours they spend here by providing the highest, individualized attention that I can.
From the contemporary interior design, to the custom display cases for glasses, to the original artwork on the walls, no detail is left to chance at The Eye Spot Optical. The doctor herself was waiting for me at the reception counter when I arrived. The atmosphere here feels more like a designer dressing room than an optometrist’s office. Everyone I encountered was friendly and professional, and I sensed the camaraderie among the staff. This family-owned business welcomes everyone in the manner of a dear friend.
The Eye Spot Optical treats patients of all ages and offers eye care ranging from routine exams to the specialized treatment of low vision. Dr. Pikus offers digital eye imaging, which allows her to store and retrieve patient eye images for comparison in future years. The doctor also conducts visual field testing, offers contact lens fittings, and provides frame styling and custom sunglasses by master opticians. Dr. Pikus is patient and loving with children, with several families leaving testimonials to that effect.
My favorite part of my business is seeing the patient through the entire process. I am able to conduct the eye exam, offer solutions, sell a pair of frames that I hand-picked and ordered myself, and then see the end result of all the work.
The Eye Spot features a distinctive selection of finely crafted eyewear and sunglasses. Dr. Pikus and her staff are committed to selecting and carrying the highest quality eyewear products. Tony Pikus, husband to Dr. Pikus, is an engineer and works alongside her, explained that The Eye Spot Optical researches each of the eyewear manufacturers and how the frames are made before they buy for the shop. According to Tony,
Details, quality and uniqueness are very important to us. We try to support independent eyewear companies, and local and small businesses with our purchases. We are very hands-on in selecting what we sell.
I was amazed at the variety of styles and brands sold at The Eye Spot Optical. Some of the frames they carry are limited production items, which means you won’t find many other people with the same frames. While The Eye Spot Optical carries eyewear that ranges from traditional styles to eclectic designs, Dr. Pikus notes that even in a fairly conservative suburban area, there is a need for unique eyewear,
We carry everything from conservative styles to very funky, artsy frames. And we carry a selection of frames especially for women with petite faces, which can be hard to come by. We find that many people purchase more than one set of frames. We are able to offer reasonable prices on frames because many are shipped directly to us by the manufacturer.

The chief eyewear stylist, Scott Kozie, who is affectionately known simply as “Kozie” at the shop is described as the “optician to the stars.” With over 25 years of frame styling experience, he has worked in places such as Aspen and Telluride, he knows his trade well. He is congenial, style-conscious, and makes sure everyone finds the perfect frames and is satisfied with what they purchase.
I can’t wait to go back to The Eye Spot Optical and cozy up on a chair with a mirror and try on some new frames. And after meeting Dr. Pikus and her staff, I know that it will be a positive experience. As Dr. Pikus says,
I start every day with a positive attitude. I don’t always know what is going on in other people’s lives. But I want them to have a good day here.
