Little Lake County is proud to have the talented Hyacynth Worth as part of our Editorial Staff.  Hyacynth and her family are pursuing the adoption of two sisters (ages 3 and 13) from Eastern Europe.  Our goal is to help The Worth Family fund their adoption process, which can be lengthy, at times frustrating, and expensive.

According to UNICEF, in 2008, in Central and Eastern Europe some 1.3 million children lived in public care; just under half of these lived in large-scale residential care facilities or boarding schools. In the Middle East and Africa, over 300,000 children are estimated to live in residential care. These numbers may be significantly underestimated.

As a nod to Hyacynth’s own gluten-free lifestyle, we invite our gluten-free audience to connect with some wonderful local purveyors who offer the products that address their dietary needs.  Nuthin’ says lovin’ like goodies from the oven!

We will feature not only gluten-free treats and baked goods, but other prepared items such as snacks, preserves, baking mixes, and more!  Items may be purchased in our bake walk or won in our raffle with all proceeds benefiting The Worth Family. Purchase a bakery box for $20 and fill it with gluten-free items donated by our generous local sponsors.

This is truly a family affair! Other event features include:

  • Live Music provided by Mike Pollitt
  • Children’s activities provided by Busy Brains Children’s Museum

  • Chair Massage and Pre-Natal Massage Demonstrations from Center for Wellness
  • Beverages from the soda fountain, coffee, tea, milk, or bottled water included
  • All ticketholders will be entered into a raffle for prizes from our generous sponsors. Additional raffle entries may be purchased – $5 for 8 tickets.
  • Bake Walk – guests may purchase a bakery box for $20 to fill with gluten-free items
  • A limited menu of Gluten-Free items will be available for purchase from Daltons Cakes

We are also giving you the opportunity to connect with local businesses concerned with your well-being.  Learn how to get more fruits and vegetables into your diet with Juice Plus + AND find out how kids can get it for FREE.  Grow good health indoors at home and have healthy, nutritious, fresh produce all year long with Tower Garden. Meet with the wellness providers of the Center for Wellness in Mundelein and learn more about their chiropractic, mental health, massage, and nutritional services.

Finally, you will meet organizations seeking to help orphaned children globally and those seeking to assist local children in need.  Find out ways you can open your heart and your home to children in crisis that don’t necessarily involve adoption.

Hyacynth Worth is the Managing Editor and Green Lifestyles Editor for Little Lake County.  We are proud to have on staff not only a talented writer; but, a respected individual in the natural parenting community through her pioneering efforts with the Babywearing International Chicagoland Chapter and her monthly sustainable living column, “Homesteading with Hyacynth.”  She is a dear friend to those privileged to know her, and a dedicated wife and mother.

Hyacynth and her family have been touched by the needs of children who have lost their families.  They have been inspired to grow their family through adoption. Hyacynth blogs about her personal adoption journey on her own blog, Undercover Mother.

Adoption is born out of brokenness. Our family has been inspired by God’s love to love children who do not have families; our hearts are broken for children who do not have the love and safety of a family. As we seek to bring two sisters into our family, we are thankful for the support of our community, friends and family. Adoption is a way to bind up the brokenness and make beauty out of the very broken. Thank you sincerely for being part of our effort to love children who desire the love of a family. ~ Hyacynth Worth
