Welcome to MADE in Lake County! MADE introduces you to the people and stories behind local Lake County businesses. Today it is our pleasure to introduce Today we are introducing you to Alison Price, a Co-Founder of the Busy Brains Children’s Museum.

Alison Price, Busy Brains Children’s Museum
Although Alison Price admits that founding Busy Brains Children’s Museum was all Kathy Goers’ idea, Alison had a lot to do with it as well. She felt the need to do something worthwhile after retiring from education, which seemed like the perfect fit. Coming up with the name was a fond memory for her. Kathy and Alison met at Something’s Brewing, and Kathy said “something with the word busy,” and Alison (loving alliteration) said “brains.” They have received many compliments on the name from the entire children’s museum community. The logo, designed by Alison’s husband, also has received compliments.
She feels like the best thing about her job is to have met some incredible people along the way, from government employees to board members and volunteers to daycare workers. Everyone she has met has embraced the idea of a children’s museum, which has kept her going. She started running five years ago, which has kept her sane throughout this process. She also loves to read and belongs to a great book club.

The most challenging part of her job has been losing focus. Their “start-up” story includes some pretty good highs and lows, and she tends to “stray” to other things during the low times. We are so happy that these two ladies have kept plugging along on their journey, so we get to enjoy their results!
Busy Brains Children’s Museum is about to embark on a capital campaign to fix up a building and build out the permanent exhibits. They are looking for sponsors of exhibits, birthday rooms, and the creation station art room. The Board of Directors are dedicated and hard-working but need even more passionate volunteers to join the building, grant writing, fundraising, marketing, or exhibit committees. Please feel free to contact Kathy at [email protected] for more information.
For now, you can find Busy Brains Children’s Museum at various places and events around Lake County with their traveling exhibits. Just check their website for locations and dates. Be sure to like them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter for updates.
