MADE in Lake County: Cali Parisi Artistry
This momma is the momma all little girls want as their momma. What little girl doesn’t love make-up?
As a young girl, Cali would sit and watch her mom complete her morning routine of putting on her make-up and fixing her hair. Fascinated, she longed for the day she would be old enough to wear make-up. A few years later, a family friend allowed her to help out in their hair salon, and lo and behold, the seed of birth for Cali Parisi Laursen was born. As a wife and a mother, Cali is a master juggler. I was lucky enough to chat with Cali about her business and ask the questions that everyone is asking.
What has been the most difficult part of getting your business up and running?
The most difficult part about getting my salon business up and running is having enough time to focus on it 110%. Since I started doing hair, I have always had part-time jobs on the side to help me financially get my business going. When I first started in the hair industry, I was working for Estee Lauder and Clinique to help with income. I realized my love for makeup while working for these companies, along with freelancing for MAC Cosmetics. Throughout the years I was a bartender and waitressed as well to help supplement income until my business was profiting enough to be able to just have one job. For the last two years, I have been focusing solely on building my salon business.
What is the hardest for you in work-life balance?
My biggest challenge is finding the balance between work and home. I love my career so much, and it takes a lot of hard work and dedication. On the other hand, my husband and my children are my heart and soul. I find myself juggling both, and it can be very stressful. I lost my father at a young age, and I always promised myself that when I had a family, they would come first, then my work, and I forget about that sometimes. So it is a struggle to balance it, but we have been working on “shutting off” phones and computers when we are home and enjoy each other while away from work. My husband is a very patient and understanding man, and he knows how much my work means to me, so he helps me out a ton at home.
What makes your business unique?
What makes my business unique is that I cater to the whole family. From haircuts for the kids to color, facial waxing, and Brazilian blowouts for moms, to men’s camo color and haircuts for dad. I am a full-service salon.

What is the one food you love so much that if it dropped on the floor you’d eat it anyways (or would eat it off your kids plate, after they took a bite)?
Hmmmmm…… gnocchi! I LOVE Italian food and my mom’s cooking is the best. I grew up eating gnocchi and it’s still my absolute favorite food.
