Corner Health Foods, Mundelein
Despite having a degree and work experience in traditional medicine I have always dabbled with natural remedies and treatments. The more children I’ve had and the older I have gotten has only made me lean that way more. Despite my history walking into a health food store can still be intimidating. The fear of not totally understanding the product, knowing what you need, and the smell. The smell of earth and vitamins that tell you this is not your typical shop.
Well, when you walk into Corner Health Foods, you realize it’s not your typical shop, immediately. From the light, airy feel, the welcoming entrance seating area, the smiles, and the smell. The fresh, lovely, and fragrant aroma of essential oils and flowers.
Admittedly I have two routes when I need a holistic medicine. I either ask a friend who’s into holistic health to give me something, or I ask my networks for the name of a product and I order it online. The stores intimidated me, I don’t like being out of my element and not knowing what everything is. Walking into Corner Health Foods doesn’t feel like walking into your typical health food store. You are greeted by live plants, a bright open store, and a small seating area. Even on a gray and raining day, the store was bright and well lit and despite taking care of someone at the register both employees looked up and greeted me.
As I walked through the store with Liliana, her passion bubbles out of her. She is excited and wants to share everything about the products with you. She also wants to get to know you; she asks questions, listens intently, she truly wants to help you live your best life.
Liliana led me into the back room so I could experience her passion, flower essence energy work. I lean natural, but energy work, auras, tarot, that is outside what I usually do. However, the room was so relaxing and inviting, and Liliana put me at ease. On the floor is a mandala of flower cards. You choose the ones that you are drawn to, and she has a spray and some oils that she puts on your face and chest. I don’t want to give too much away, but she was spot on with what was bothering me, what I need to work on. It was an utterly calming experience that I carried with me for the rest of the day.
The whole store is like that. I learned about oils, we discussed if I could use a diffuser around children with asthma. Liliana knows her products and what she doesn’t know she will research and get back to you. She doesn’t just want to sell you a product and if she’s not sure it will work for you or it’s not right she’s not going to push you on the hard sell.
I asked Liliana what she would recommend to someone coming into her store for the first time. Where should someone who is just starting to think about natural remedies even begin? Her recommendation was probiotics, they currently really enjoy Thrive. She tells me facts I’m pretty familiar with, almost 90% of the population has some form of depression or anxiety – treated or not. Your gut has been called your second brain because of the number of nerves in it and how much it’s health affects your body. Probiotics are a great way to start to repair and heal that and move to a healthier happier you.
If you’re interested in learning more about the products and taking steps to a more natural and healthy life stop into Corner Health Foods today and start asking questions. You won’t be led astray or disappointed. In addition to feeling better, you will also be supporting a local business and family, which is sure to make you feel happier.
