Welcome to MADE in Lake County! MADE introduces you to the people and stories behind local Lake County businesses. This month we’ve gotten to know Carlos Archilla owner of Lake County Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Today we are going to get an inside look at classes at LCBJJ.

Do you have a little martial arts fanatic just itching to try some fun classes? A great place to try is the Lake County Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu located in Mundelein. Locally owned, this dojo not only caters to kids, but offers classes for all ages and all levels.

I took my 6 year old daughter there to try a class last week and we had a great experience from the moment we walked in the door. There was a class finishing up so the 2 instructors were both busy with their students but we were greeted by a friendly young man at the front desk. He came over to us and introduced himself and welcomed us. He had us sign a waiver and explained that in a few minutes, the owner Carlos, would be coming over to get my daughter, Ava. Ava is a shy kid so she was quite nervous about this class since she didn’t know anyone. We were about 15 minutes early for the class but Carlos wanted to show Ava some introductory moves before the class started.
Carlos came right over and introduced himself and explained to Ava that he was going to show her some things before the class started. He also explained that they have a foot bath for everyone to rinse their feet off before stepping onto the mats, that way they can keep their facility super clean.
Carlos guided Ava onto the mats and with the help of another little girl who was waiting for the class to begin, they showed Ava some of the exercises they would be doing in the class. This helped Ava get

Once the class started, they did a series of warm up exercises which included running, bear crawls and jumping jacks. I was thrilled to see Ava participating in all of them with a huge smile on her face. There were about 8 kids in the class (a good mix of both boys and girls) and there were 2 instructors and 2 older kid helpers so the younger kids had lots of one on one attention. The class ended with a fun game of Sharks & Minnows.

Ava had a really good time and told me that she would like to go back as Carlos was so friendly and the other kids in the class made her feel like she was part of the group. A great experience overall!
LCBJJ is offering our readers two weeks of kids classes for $19.99
which includes a free uniform! Just mention Little Lake County when you
