Welcome to MADE in Lake County! MADE introduces you to the people and stories behind local Lake County businesses. Today it is our pleasure to acquaint you with Shannon Rosberg and Anna Rosberg. Shannon and Anna are the owners of The Latte Cafe & Bakery in Antioch.

I have two little girls that love baking and watching baking show competitions. When we break out the playdoh they come up with contests and challenges for each other or put together full display cases of their creations. It would be a dream for them to get to do it someday in real life. For Anna Rosberg that dream came true in 2017 when she partnered with her best friend and Sister-in-law to purchase The Latte Cafe in Antioch.

Shannon and Anna are not only related, Anna is married to Shannon’s brother, but they are also best friends. Anna has a culinary degree and was a pastry chef in Oregan and Glenview for 14 years before having her children. After spending a few years at home with her two girls Anna was itching to get back into the food service industry and started working a few shifts a week at The Latte Cafe.

Shannon, a lifelong resident of the Antioch area, has a background in communications and marketing. Her children were older and she was looking to go back to work. She was hoping to find a company to invest in when Anna told her that the cafe was for sale. It was destiny and the two purchased the cafe and rebranded it as The Latte Cafe and Bakery in 2017.

Shannon and Anna work really well together, playing off each other’s strength and filling in on the others weakness. Having lived in the area their whole lives they are more than familiar with the corner that the cafe sits on. They have grown to love the area even more as they have gotten to know regulars, many of them by both name and drink! Shannon and Anna take pride in all aspects of the cafe from the design and service to the taste and flavors offered in the cafe. They love seeing people come in for the first time and being impressed enough that the come back on a regular basis.

Running a business and a family is not easy. Owning a physical location as well as a business can be unpredictable. Those unforeseen circumstances keep them on their toes. Through it all, they have each others back and the shared joy in seeing the results of their hard work. Their kids get in on the action too. Anna’s young daughters love to come in and hang out at the shop and Shannon’s older boys pitch in as needed and are always up for working for free food and frappes. When I was there chatting with the ladies Shannon’s dad (Anna’s father-in-law) was at the shop helping ice the walk and planning on a trip to the hardware store. He pitches in when he can to help with some of the decorating and maintenance of the space.

After enjoying some of their coffee and an amazing flour-free cookie (more coming on the food in another story) I asked about what they do when not in the shop, I asked them what they would do if they had 30-free minutes. After we were all done laughing at the thought that a mom with 30-free minutes meant we probably forgot something! They settled on the most popular mom answer, nothing! Or maybe a nap! When they’re not at the cafe they like hanging out with their families together and enjoy a night out at Anastasia’s.

Anna gets to live out her childhood dream of owning a cafe and she’s doing it with her best friend at her side. Stop in and see them this week and tell them that Little Lake County sent you! They are offering our readers Buy One, Get One Half Off all drinks!
