Mompreneur Monday: Jessica Weinstock Photography

Mompreneur of the MonthWelcome to Mompreneur Monday where we introduce you to Mom-Based businesses in Lake County.

Today we are meeting Jessica Weinstock a Gurnee mom and owner of Jessica Weinstock Photography.

What was the catalyst that started your business?

Back in 2009 when my daughter was about 1, I realized that my point and shoot camera could only give me photos of the back of her head due to how fast she was getting. I had never even heard of ‘Custom, natural light photography’ before I had my daughter. I was in an Ivillage mom group online where a couple of the ladies were photographers. They inspired me to learn the craft to, at first, just to take better photos of my daughter. Which then spun into a business over the years.

Has it been difficult to get your business up and running, while being a stay-at-home mom, managing a household, etc?

Yes, time is something I don’t have much of. I work 4 days a week as a veterinary technician outside of my photography world along with being a mommy to a 4 year old and a 7 month old. I do have a set schedule for my photography sessions which usually works out very well.

What is the best thing about your job?

There are SO many things that are amazing about being a photographer. Being able to capture a moment in a families life that they will be able to have forever is the main one. I also love being able to create these amazing friendships that I have with clients!

What do you do to recharge?

When I can find the time, take a nap!

What is your inspiration?

Aside from my children, my wonderful friends in the photography world inspire me everyday. I am so thankful to be able to be a part of a wonderful community. Pinterest is also a great inspiration generator.

What is the most important thing you want our readers to know?

I have a true passion for what I do and am always looking for ways to learn and improve myself. I love being a part of these families lives for a brief moment and helping them capture these memories that hopefully last them a lifetime.
